Is there really that much more protein in a raw egg over a cooked one?

Salmonella, And yes. I think you can get it from raw meat too. Only from raw poultry (chicken). Yeah true, salmonella can come from drinking unpasteurized milk too, not just eating undercooked chicken or eggs. Not to mention that if salmonella-containing foods such as chicken are thoroughly cooked, any food can become contaminated during preparation if conditions and equipment for food preparation are unsanitary.

raw eggs wont cause salmonella now but can leave a horrible taste for weeks in your mouth. I think raw eggs have less fat and more protein rather than any type of cooked eggs which is why people drink them.

I did a quick search on Yahoo! (not the best place, but it's my default search engine for my browser and I'm too lazy to change it) and found several sites that advised against it. As several people have posted there is a chance to catch salmonella from raw eggs and even the egg shells. They advised to never eat anything made from raw eggs and certainly never eat the eggs themselves.

I've been a natural bodybuilder for almost 6 years and I've never had one raw egg. Eggs are in fact the best source of protein but eating them raw is extremely dangerous. I have a minor in nutritional sciences and there are no benefits to eating raw eggs verses cooked eggs. The dangers are high for consuming raw egg.
Rocky was the movie that inspired the consumption of raw egg. Why people do it today I don't know. Research and findings have shown and proven that consuming raw eggs is dangerous and bad for your health.
The macro-nutrients make-up of an egg stays the same whether raw or cooked (fat, carbs and proteins do not change proportionally). The amount of bioavailable protein (the amount usable for the body) is slightly lower in a cooked egg than in a raw egg. However the health risks associated with consuming a raw egg isn't worth the additional amount of bioavailable protein.

If you use pasteurized eggs its ok. All the bacteria is gone, I buy the cartoned egg whites and mix in about a 1/4 cup of em with a glass of orange juice (tried em by themselves once, they taste horrible), I do it because I'm too lazy to cook them in the morning and I just wanna get the protein and be done with it. Gotta drink it fast though or else the acidity of the OJ can cook the eggs.
And like EventOmega said, normal eggs nowadays are pretty clean, there has to be a lot of "ifs" to get salmonella from raw eggs right from the shell.

Yeah, I cant see how a raw egg can have that many more nutrients than a cooked one, and like said above, its not worth the health risks so I assume this practice is probaly atleast a little outdated.

Great source of protien. It's great to have right before a morning workout, I hear. I haven't tried it, because I'm afriad I might get like some disease or something, but hey, If it works for bodybuilders, I might reconsider

I'd rather have them cooked to be honest.

I eat raw eggs every now and then and I've never gotten sick from it. There's nothing wrong with it. Eating the shell is what -might- make you sick, but even that is questionable.
