Cardio is best to shread body fat because your heart rate will raise quicker and you'll sweat quicker.
Lifting weights is mostly if you wanna put on muscle as an above poster said it turns fat into muscle.

Yes it will help, but it will also turn fat into muscle Big misconception. You can not turn fat into muscle. They are two different entities. If you want to lose fat, focus on cardio and light weight training. What you eat is just as important to losing weight.

Lifting weights builds muscle from fat. So essiantially, yes.

if you just want to lose weight, RUN! if you want to gain muscle, lift weights. Remember that muscle weighs for more then fat so dont worry if you gain weight in the process. Also remember, DO NOT SKIP BREAKFAST!!!! breakfast starts your matabolism early in the morning which helps burn fat

Like said above, keep in mind that MUSCLE weighs MORE than FAT.
CV is the best way to lose weight, no doubt.
Hitting the weights may cause an initial weight loss, but if you're serious about the training, my guess is that it'll eventually put the weight back on, but this time in the form of muscle.
I'm actually trying to gain weight, and going to the gym 4 times a week doing only weights helps a great deal. I try to do the CV on Wednesdays, but I don't do much because, for health reasons, I need the weight to stay on!
(Which is incredibly ironic because for other health reasons, I need to do lots of CV to keep my lungs healthy, but then I'm losing weight! I can't win and it pisses me off.)

Running also helps to burn fat. Weight lifting will turn that fat into muscle.
