So my friends and I are heading up to NYC for the Royal Rumble, but we will have a few days before it to do stuff in NYC and Jersey.
So far we have agreed to check out Ground Zero, the Empire State building, the store from Big and some other stuff. Plus is Jersey we are going back to the Secret Stash and finally finding the Quick Stop.
What I want to know from any of you that live in New York or have spent some time there is what would truly be worth checking out? What are some things that get looked over by your typical tourist?

South Street Sea Port is really beautiful when you go in the late afternoon, definitely worth checking out. Just bring a jacket.
There's a really, really nice & huge park around 140th St on the West Side, Riverside Park. It has everything..baseball fields, basketball courts, track, football.
Obviously Times Square is a great experience if you're a tourist. Hell I live here and have been there thousands of times and I still love it at night.

The Statue of Liberty World's biggest Toys R' Us in Times Square Borders right across from MSG is a time killer, as well, once you've done all you wanted to.

When you're in Jersey, if you're around the area of Fords, YOU HAVE TO GO TO VINTAGE VINYL. Warning: This record store will make your wallet look anorexic by the time you're done.
EDIT: and try to get on Cash Cab, that'd be the shit.

This is going to bother me until I remember it, but there is a great tour bus company that will take you all over the city. Plus you can get off the bus anytime & another one comes through like every 20 minutes. My family just made a full day of it because its the only way to see so much.

Ever seen Friday The 13th Part VIII? It's just like that. Only with more barrells of toxic waste, and more steam coming from the sewers.

In NY: - Kim's Video (coolest movie store in NY) - The Sock Lady (Why not?) - Also on St. Mark's there are a lot of fun headshops with a bunch of random fun things in them. I got an awesome Naughty By Nature shirt in one. There's some fun punk stores around there too, kind of like expensive Hot Topics. They're good to waste time in and people watch. - If you want the best macaroni and cheese in the world, go to this place called S'Mac on 12th between 1st and 2nd. You will NOT be disappointed.

i knew someone was going to say toys r us soak up the city as mcuh as you can. hit up times square, get a hot dog A Papaya King hot dog to be exact, theyre the best hot dogs Ive ever had. Cheap as hell and delicious But yeah, Toys R Us is awesome If you like video games theres Nintendo World. No its not a Nintendo theme park (oh how beautiful that would be), but its a huge all Nintendo store, I believe in Rockefeller Plaza. I haven't been but next time I go thats on the top of my list. Harlem is pretty cool too and don't worry, youre not gonna get mugged or anything, as long as you don't go into any back allys or something. Its a really cool cultural experience. Try finding some cool eaterys too, because NY is full of great restaurants that you can't find many other places.

I wasn't a fan of the huge Toys "R" Us, most of the stuff was just for show.
I was there for 4 days last summer and I want to go back this year.
