I don't live there, but I went there with my parents last July and it was fantastic! We didn't see all what we wanted to see, but here are some things you can do:
Coney Island MSG Times Square Central Park Little Italy Walk over the Brooklyn bridge Tri-beca Plaza Hotel Woodbury Common (Shopping center) Ellis Island Ground Zero Empire State building

In Jersey:
The Secret Stash and Quick Stop (though amazing its just a store) are extremely far from NYC
im talking about an hour or so without traffic.
In The City:
St. Marks place...thats all you need.
I would check out Generations and Fat Beats both close to each other off the path train (9th street station) also time square if you've never been, Washington square park is always fun as well as midtown comics, the barns and noble at union square is a great time killer and the amc on 42nd to catch a movie

Trying to remember what I did when I was in NYC a few years back (both times)...
- Sout Street Seaport was cool. - Statue of Liberty was closed (this was right after 9/11) - but we went to Ellis Island - cool to trace your roots. - Empire State Building - Broadway - Saw The Graduate and Avenue Q. AQ was awesome. - Times Square - Comedy Club - Can't remember which one, but we went to the same one - it's in the neighbourhood of Central Park I think. Stand Up NY Comedy Club? - Central Park - St. Patricks Cathedral - I was on a School Trip. Needed to attend mass, and what a place it was. Such an experience. - Museums. - United Nations - Chinatown - Little Italy
Have Fun!

Dude, if you're in Albany, New York on the 26th, the night before the Rumble, GO TO VALENTINES AND SEE BLANKS 77!
Best punk band, EVER.

Look, I understand that punk is the super most penultimately important thing ever, but one would imagine that one might have enough to do in and around the city without driving close to three hours to see Blanks 77.

Fact that they don't tour anymore, and don't do shows to often outside of the New Jersey/New York area, would be enough of a reason for me to drive three little hours. - I forgot, this is a suggestion thread, I shouldn't have suggested that.

I would NOT drive that far to go see The Stash in Red Bank, Rant. You're looking at about 5-6 hours worth of driving/train rides for just a comic shop. I mean it's cool, but it's not THAT cool. Leonardo's even farther, where the Quick Stop is. I'd skip it.

Once again thanks for all of the recommendations everybody, so far my friends and I have lined up quite a few things to do. Oh yeah, Adambomb I appreciate you mentioning a killer show, but there is a band playing the Stone Pony in Jersey on Saturday night that my friend really wants to see, so we are all going there.

Definitely go to a comedy club, eat at one of NYC's great resturants, and go to Scores, that's the best strip club!
