The idea of death, the fear of it, haunts the human like nothing else; it is a mainspring of human activity - designed largely to avoid the fatality of death, to overcome it by denying in some way that it is the final destiny of man.

I hate the Emergency Room. Its smell reminds me of toilet bowl cleaner mixed with a very unflattering aroma which I cannot seem to describe. And the sounds? They are migraine inducing. From the doctors yelling, to the ambulance sirens going crazy. How someone could work in a place like this, I do not know. Heck, just the vibe of pain and suffering drives me mad. Now maybe I am prejudice to ERs because I have spent so much time in them. Or maybe I am prejudice for the reasons I have had to come here. Now, if I were the one who was in one of those beds, sick or dying, I would not care that I am here. It is my life, it ends when it ends. But when it is someone I know…..and someone I love, it is worse than the thought of my own death itself. First it was my daughter a few years ago. Right now, my girlfriend is behind that door, fighting for her life. God I wish it would have been me. It should have been me. I was the one Michaels wanted, not her.
“Hello, ma’am. Question, do you have any word on Jessica Hadam?”
ER Worker: Not yet, sir. Sorry.
“Thanks.”
*ring ring*
“Hello?”
Williams: Hey Shawn, its Dave….how ya doing?
“Hanging in there. But they still won’t tell me anything about what is going on with her…..All we can do right now is hope for the best. Anyways dude, did you need something?”
Williams: Nothing, just wanted to check up on ya…..Oh yeah, almost forgot. You rushed outta here so fast you did not get the card. You are facing Yukio on the 13th.
“This day keeps getting better and better.”
Williams: Hehe….dude, I have no idea what you are going through….just hang in there and hope for the best. I will keep you and Jess in my prayers. Call me if you need anything, and call the minute you hear something. Don’t care what time it is.
“Dude, thank you.”
Williams: Hey, what are friends for? Anyways, talk to ya later. Bye.
“Bye.”
ER Worker: Sir? The doctors have just gotten out of surgery. They are transferring her over to the recovery wing. You can head over there, and go from there, ok?
“Oh thank god….thank you ma’am.”

She is probably asleep, so I guess I will just go in and sit there for a little before I head off for the show. Walking into this room kills me. Even though she is getting stronger and better everyday, I hate that I am partly to blame for her being in this room.
Moving forward, my footsteps echoed across the room. "I didn't mean to startle you," I told her, as she turned to face me. “I was just going to come in and sit for a little before I head off.”
Jessie: Oh, well that is nice I guess. Speaking of that, where are you even heading?
“Miami I think.”
Jessie: Haven’t been there. Have heard it is nice.
“Yeah, I have been there a few times. It is a nice city I guess.”
Jessie: So who are you facing?
“Ummm…..Yukio I believe.”
Jessie: I know you have wanted that match for a while…make me proud.
“I always try to. But enough about me….you hanging in there?”
Jessie: I guess. But I am starving. Getting shot in the gut is not fun in both ways.
“I could imagine. Did they mention any more surgeries or such?”
Jessie: Nothing. The nurses and doctors do not say anything to me. And I do not try to talk to them. They might try to charge me for it.
“Ha. Well I am glad to see your sense of humor was not affected.”
*knock knock*
Williams: Anyone home?
“Hey man.”
Jessie: Hey Dave.
Williams: I brought flowers.
“Aww….thank you…they will look great on top of my TV.”
Williams: They are not for you Shawn. They are for that lady.
Jessie: Thank you!
Williams: I actually had a dual purpose for coming here. Shawn, we have to go. If we want to catch our flight, we gotta go now. You packed?
“Yeah, it is over there.”
Williams: Ok, well I am going to try to convince the taxi driver to not take off with my stuff….just hurry up. Meet you outside.
“Yeah, yeah. I hope he took off with your stuff” I said under my breath jokingly.
Williams: What?
“Nothing…just go, I have to say goodbye.”
Williams: Ok…see you out there. Get well Jessie.
“Well, I have to get out of here to make the flight. You need anything before I go?”
Jessie: Yeah. This.
Jessie reaches up and pulls me down my neck and kisses me. But this was not a usual kiss that we had shared that and much more before. This kiss had worry in it. I knew, however that the worry was not from me. It was from Jessie. But why was she worried? Did she know something I did not? Was she leaving something out? I would hope not.
“Wow.”
Jessie: I’m good ain’t I? Hehe.
“Duh. Jess, sorry, I hate to leave on that note, but I have to go. I will call you when I get there.”
Jessie: Ok sweatheart….I love you. And I will tell Dr. M to call you if there is any change.
“Okay. Love you too.”

“Man that flight took forever.”
Williams: No not really, but when something is weighing heavy on your mind, time always seems to go slower. Dude. I know you are worried about your match, but you will do fine. Yukio is good, but you are better.
“I guess.”
Williams: Well we got to get to the hotel, I need sleep. For crying out loud it is 2:30 am.
“Yeah. Let me grab my luggage.”
Williams: Alright man.
[25 minutes of pure annoyance with the FFA workers later]
“Finally….Well lets get out of here before I kill one of these slow workers.”
*ring ring*
“Hello?”
??: Is this Shawn Thomas?
“Yeah, who’s this?”
McCaffery: This is Dr. McCaffery from the Portland Hospital.
“Ah, I was just going to call you. You see Jessie seemed very…..worried when I left, and I wanted to know what was going on.”
McCaffery: Mr. Thomas, I do not know how to tell you this, but Jessie died twenty minutes ago. We are……
Time just stood still. I did not hear a word after died. I dropped to my knees in agony and despair. How did this happen? I mean I knew she seemed worried when I left, but she said that she knew nothing…..that’s it. She lied to me. She knew exactly what was going on the whole time. My god…..
Williams: Yo, what are you doing on the floor? That jackass who calls himself a cabbie is about to tear my head off because of all the time we have been sitting there. Yo Shawn, you listening to me? Hello? Dude, what’s wrong?
“Jessie’s dead.”

OOC: I think this turned out fair for my more recent work. Hopefully I can compete with Yukio this week. As always, comments are welcome, and good luck Yukio.
PS: That quote at the top was the only place it would fit. So Yukio, if you think I am taking your style, I am sorry, but that is the only way this RP would work.
