As the machine went to a soft buzz the whole family stood over the fallen love. His arm gently sagged and his hand went limp as the Reverend held on tightly. The Reverend sat on his knees near his fathers side, his hand tightly grasping his fathers. A tear seeped down his cheek as he tightly clinched his eyes together, a muffled moan of sorrow accompanied it. His mother, sitting on the other side of his father, was gently petting the top of his head. She wept greatly over her fallen husband and did not once have a moment where tears were not flowing. Her sadness bestowed only a great life lead by the now man who lay before them, now out of their reach. Reverend's sister now stood outside the room, her back pressed up against the wall, sobbing and yelling for her dad to come back to her. She slid down the wall still crying and yelling for him to return to her yet to no avail. His dad lay solemn as if only sleeping for once without pain or sorrow in his heart, finally at piece.

{A Dying Man's Last Thoughts} PART #1

I lied there till the pain became to much and I knew it was time for my medication. I shifted my weight and pulled myself up and looked at the clocked with a bit of discouragement, realizing that it was only 1 in the morning. I moved to my left a bit and grabbed my meds, I then attempted to uncap the bottle but to no avail, the child proof top had stop me in my tracks for I had not the strength to open it. I reached over and pressed the nurses button, the once embarassing task had now become so common that even being fed was not out of the ordinary. As I laid back, still in pain and helpless, the nurse came rushing in and as she did she looked at the time and knew what I needed. She reached across me and grabbed the bottle and easily popped it open as if the cap had been held on by only a hair. She dropped a pill out and gave it to me and accopanied it with my water. I took the medication and as the pill slid down my throat, she began to speak to me in her always soft and gentle tone of voice that always seemed to sooth my situation.
Nurse: Soooo.....I see your up early today....are you hurting pretty bad tonight?
John: No worse then usual, seems like everyday its just a struggle to get anything done.
Her face saddened a bit.
Nurse: Please, you know I dont like for you to talk like that, you need to keep your spirits up.....Remember your family is coming tonight!
I smiled a bit and perked up, my son who I hadn't seen in quite awhile was coming to visit, and the whole family would be together tonight. She saw my eyes brighten, I could tell by the comforted smirk she now shown on her face. I decided that no matter what, today I would keep my head up and make the best of the day. Just then the phone began to ring, the tone shook my insides a bit. The nurse quickly jerked the phone up and began to speak into it.
Nurse: Hello?......Hey, Rev., How are you doing?.....Yes, your father is up, would you like to talk to him?......Ok, I look forward to seeing you tonight so you better be here....Ok, here he is.......
She handed me the phone and pulled it up to my ear and as I got there, I felt anticipation to get to talk to him and see what new stuff was going on with him. Last I had heard he had been on a leave from the wrestling business and was seeking personal forgiveness. He talked of starting a small perish of his own in our hometown but had said nothing of having one quite yet.
John: Budman!....Are you there?
Reverend: Dad!....how have you been?
John: The usual....no better....no worse....so your coming tonight right?
My son was finally coming to see me, though I knew he had just reassured my nurse I still felt the need to make sure myself. Sometimes things are so exciting you can't help but to make sure.
Reverend: Yes Dad!....I told you I would and I will. I've got big news though also...its actually amazing news!
John: What happened thats got you all excited?
Reverend: This upcoming Pay Per View, I'm going to be in a Royal Rumble, the winner gets a shot at the biggest title in the business and I've been praying and getting ready both spiritually and physically. I have been awaiting this moment for a long time, new owners just took over and I was offered back and when I heard what the match would be I could not wait!.....I'm sorry, I'm prolly boring you with this......
John: No no.....I'm excited for you!....So do you know anybody that will be in the match, I mean any competitors your looking forward to going up against?
I actually was very excited for him, I felt kind of saddened that he would doubt my pride in his happiness. I eagerly awaited his response and hoped that he recognized the enthused and sincere tone that I was hoping to show.
Reverend: Well....I guess I'm excited to be getting in the ring with Ganador, a rematch against him excites because the last time we met he beat me but this time I plan to get my vengeance. I also am excited to be going up against the guy known as Tha CBT....it ought to be interesting but I feel that he is no match for me with my family and God on my side. Also one more guy that has peaked my interest is this guy Johnny Malice, he poses no real challenge but he is an interesting character none the less. This poses to be my biggest challeng but once I win and get my shot at the title, I will finally show people that I dont need a partner to win a title.
I began to laugh a bit in a joyful way at his crazed voice as if no other thought had crossed his mind in weeks. I then decided that this would be a great time to try to get to know where his life as been going lately.
John: So, did you ever start that church you wanted to start up and how are you doing in general?
Reverend: I'm ok, I attempted to get my own church going but right as I started putting stuff together I ended up getting a call from WFWF offering me back to Fed and I could not help but take the offer. I needed the work and honestly I needed to get back to doing God's will, despite my time to forgive myself for what I had done and created, I now know that I'm not completely at fault for the fall out of the Holocaust and such.
He seemed a bit distant but very truthful in his evaluation of his life and where it had gone. I knew that he could take care of himself. He always had, even since he was a child he had done the right things and worked hard.
John: Well my medicine is starting to kick in....I can't wait to get to see you tonight.....I love you....
Reverend: I love you too Dad.....I'll see you then....bye...
Click.....I then as soon as I set the phone down, fell deep deep asleep. The medicine had definitely done its job because now I found myself in a world of dreams of which I had no true control over. I soon felt at ease and felt no pain in the state I had fallen into, I began to relive a memory of long ago, when Rev. well still young and had only small ambitions of his now accomplished dreams. I saw our house, it was nearing his birthday and I could hear him in the background, rustling through his presents. I stood over him and and he looked up at me.
Young Rev: May I open one, please Daddy please!....Just one!
How could I say no to him, he had such glee in his eyes and I wanted him to have some fun before his special day. I pulled from the closet one of his presents, though his mom would disaprove of me doing so, I cared only for his comfort at that very moment. His eyes widened as I handed it to him and he smiled the grin that only he could, he then stripped the present clean of the paper and opened the small box that accompanied it. It was a small toy world title and a Hogan hat, he wasted no time thrusting the hat onto his small head, it slipped a bit where it covered his eyes. Then instantly as if he had been waiting his whole life for the moment he strapped the belt onto his waste and began flexing his arms as if muscles existed. He then ran to me and I bent down as he wrapped his arms around me.
Young Rev: Thank You Daddy, One day I will really be champion, you just wait and see, I'll be the best champion ever!
The dream the faded as the pain shot into my right arm once again. The nerves twinging and causing immense amounts of pain then shot me up out of bed just in time to hear the phone ringing once again. I knew it had to be my wife Teresa with her daily call, she always made sure to call and come by and see me every day. I pulled the phone up to my ear.
John: Hello.
Teresa: Hey, how are you feeling this evening Sweetie?
John: I'm hurting as usual.....
I glanced at the clock and realized it was around 2 pm, I couldn't believe I was out for as long as I was fore it only seemed like mere moments.
Teresa: Soooo....What have you been up to?
John: I talked to Rev. today.
Teresa: Oh really.....What has he been up to?
John: I guess hes going back to wrestling and has a huge match coming up and the winner gets a shot at the title. I can't believe he might actually accomplish all that stuff that we thought to only be boyhood nonsense. Actually I just had a dream right before you called, it was about when he was younger.
Her voice seemed to sooth me despite all the agony that I was in.
Teresa: What happened in it?
John: Well, I let him open that present early when he was younger....you know....the one with the toy belt and Hulk Hogan hat in it.
Teresa: Yea, I remember that.
John: Sometimes its just weird to think that he has come so far and if he wins this upcoming match against all those men he will have a chance at the one thing that he has had his mind on since childhood. Well I think I'm going to go and eat and take my medicine, I'm past time.
I hated letting her go so soon, but I really did need to get myself in order for tonight.
Teresa: Well I love you and I will see you tonight, I think I might call Rev. a little later.
John: Ok, I love you too...bye....
