Monday Dec. 11th
9:45pm
Pittsburgh, PA.
There is a slight chill in the air, the night sky pitch black, the only light being provided by the street lamps that line the narrow road that I find myself slowly walking down. I know where I’m heading, it’s just taking me a while to get there; the cold temperature of the night causes my bones to ache slightly thus slowing me down. I only stepped out of my car a few minutes ago, deciding to park it around the corner, knowing that otherwise it would be a nightmare to get back out of this area soon… but damn, it’s cold.
Cupping my hands around my mouth, I breathe some warm air into them as I continue to walk further down the seemingly deserted street, quickening my pace just a little bit as I know I’m already going to be given a headache for being only… two hours late. As I near the end of the street, the sounds of voices, studded footsteps, car doors slamming shut and engines revving break the silence of the night.
I turn the corner as I reach the end of the dark, narrow street and start making my way down the slightly wider, more active one which is brightened by flood lights towards the end of it. I place my hands into the pockets of my black, fleeced jacket and walk towards the soccer pitch, which is situated a few hundred yards down the street. I pull my hands in closer towards my body, wrapping my jacket tighter around me to try and shelter out some of the bitter temperature.
As I reach the gates outside the soccer field I stop, leaning my back up against them. I pull out a pack of cigarettes from my jacket pocket and take one of them out, placing it between my lips before slipping the packet back into the pocket. I fumble around in the deep pocket of my jeans for my lighter, quickly grasping hold of it and sliding it out. Cupping my left hand around the tip of the cigarette, guarding it from the wind, I flip open the lighter using the thumb of my right hand and push down on it, igniting the flame and guiding it towards the end of the cigarette, lighting it. I flip the top of the lighter back down and drop it back into my pocket as I take a deep drag of the cigarette and exhale after a few seconds.
He shouldn’t be too long now.
Sure enough after a couple of minutes, my younger brother, Cole, makes his way out of the gates with his head hung low, his kit bag slung over his shoulder. He almost walks straight past me before I reach out and grab a hold of his arm, pulling him backwards.
K.C. McGrath: "What's the matter with you?"
Cole McGrath: "Oh, so you finally decide to show up. You know when I ask you to come to a game I mean to actually watch the game, you know... support me or something, not to show up afterwards an...
K.C. McGrath: "I know, I know I'm sorry... I got caught up doing something."
Cole McGrath: "Playing bodyguard?"
K.C. McGrath: "No, I ran into a friend... he wanted me to help him move some **** to his new apartment."
Cole McGrath: "And that was obviously more important than watching me play..."
K.C. McGrath: "Cole, I can watch you play any time... stop being so moody. Did you win?"
Cole McGrath: "Are you kidding? We got totally killed."
K.C. McGrath: "Surprise, surprise... I guess there has to be a loser in every family huh?"
I laugh a little, to try and lighten the mood but Cole just glares at me, apparently not finding my comment amusing in any way.
Cole McGrath: "And you're Mister Successful are you?"
K.C. McGrath: "I'm on that path, yeah."
Cole McGrath: "Okay, well... have fun with it."
Cole heaves his bag further up onto his shoulder and begins to walk away. I reach out again and grab his arm.
K.C. McGrath: "Dude... what is your problem?"
Cole McGrath: "You..."
K.C. McGrath: "What have I done this time?"
Cole McGrath: "Making promises and breaking them... same old story really isn't it?"
K.C. McGrath: "Look, I said I'm sorry. I've only been back a few days man and I'm flying back out tomorrow... there's only so many hours in a day. I've been busy... you know I'd have been here earlier if I could."
Cole McGrath: "Would you though?"
K.C. McGrath: "Yes! I wouldn't be here if I didn't care would I?"
Cole McGrath: "Dunno... maybe you got bored before jetting back off to your larger than life lifestyle."
K.C. McGrath: "Okay, if that's how you wanna think. Anyway, let's get going... it's freezing out here."
Cole McGrath: "It's alright... I'll walk."
K.C. McGrath: "Don't be stupid. My car's about five minutes away, I'll give you a ride."
I take Cole's bag from him and sling it over my own shoulder and start to walk away, back down the street with him following behind. He speeds up a little bit to catch up with me as we reach the end of the street and turn the corner back onto the narrow, darker one.
Cole McGrath: "Sorry about what I said... I know this wrestling crap means the world to you."
K.C. McGrath: "Yeah, it does."
Cole McGrath: "What's Asia like?"
He looks up at me with a genuine interest in his eyes.
K.C. McGrath: "Different."
Cole McGrath: "Wow... what a detailed answer."
K.C. McGrath: "Ask me something worthwhile and I might actually consider giving you decent answers."
Cole McGrath: "Okay then... who are you facing this week?"
K.C. McGrath: "Calvin Lee..."
Cole McGrath: "Is he good?"
I stop for a second, reaching into my pocket to once again take out a cigarette. I take the time to light it before giving a reply to Cole as we begin walking again.
K.C. McGrath: "From what I've seen so far... yeah, he's not bad. Nothing I can't handle though."
Cole McGrath: "Of course... you're K.C. McGrath... you can handle anything."
The sarcasm in his voice is evident as we near the end of the street.
K.C. McGrath: "I intend on being noticed and making an impact in WFWF..."
Cole McGrath: "Which is why you're that Reverend dude's bodyguard..."
K.C. McGrath: "That's for my own security... to make sure I'm not going to be overlooked."
Cole McGrath: "Nobody's gonna take you seriously like that, Kam..."
I take a long drag of my cigarette as we cross over the street toward where I parked my car.
K.C. McGrath: "Oh, they will. They'll have no choice to when they see what I'm capable of this week."
Taking another drag of my cigarette I walk around to the back of the car and take my keys from my pocket, unlocking the trunk and placing Cole's bag inside before slamming it shut and moving around to the driver's door.
Cole McGrath: "Maybe..."
He shrugs his shoulders as I unlock the car and he opens the passenger door.
K.C. McGrath: "There's no maybe about it. When I beat Calvin Lee this week people will have no choice but to take notice and realise that I am the real deal. I think Calvin has it stuck in his mind that he's going to kick my ass without breaking a sweat... oh how wrong he is. He's in for the shock... and the beating of a lifetime."
Cole McGrath: "Yeah, okay... can we go now?"
K.C. McGrath: "Sure, get in."
Cole gets into the car, as I throw my cigarette to the ground, standing on it to put it out before getting into the car myself.
OOC: I was trying to be more desciptive in this rp... but towards the end I kinda got lazy since I'd been putting the rp off and like an idiot I waited until practically the last minute to get it done. I also intended on making it a bit longer and mentioning more about the match... but yeah, time was against me.
Give me hell guys lol
