The scene begins in a schoolyard. Children are playing happily on the oval and on the playground, talking about their exploits over the weekend, as it is Monday morning. Suddenly the bell rings and all the children head towards the auditorium of Midland Christian School, Western Australia for morning assembly. Eventually, all the kids get assembled and the principal arrives at the top of the steps, and everyone quiets down. He is dressed in a black suit and has neatly slicked black hair, almost like a secret service agent.
Principal: Welcome, children, to another week of your lives at Midland Christian. Instead of our usual plan, we have a special guest speaker this morning. However, Jade Striker knows him better than I, so she will introduce him. Jade?
Jade walks up with her school uniform immaculate, and without palm cards or paper, begins speaking.
Jade: This morning your guest is not anyone who has anything to do with school or education. If you do what he does, you are more than likely to get severely injured or even die. This man is my father. For the few of you out there who watch wrestling, you will know this man. May I present to you the man whom I manage for a career, the fastest rising star in the WFWF, Skyler Striker!
Skyler Striker appears from out of the corner of the assembly and is met with a different crowd response than usual, which is mild applause from the children. As he walks up to the stage, the principal pulls Jade aside.
Principal: Are you sure he won’t go over the top, Jade?
Jade: About 95 percent sure, sir.
Principal: 95? What about the other five?
Jade: What a clichéd question. Sir, I assure you that nothing will go wrong.
Up on the stage, Skyler grabs the microphone. He is dressed in his usual black shirt and maroon pants, and has a big smile on his face.
Skyler: You see these scars on my legs, kids? This is what I do for a living. I fight every day for a small belt that goes around my waist. I fight for the right to be called the best there is in the wrestling business. The scar along my left leg was given to me by a sadistic psychopath called Jack of Blades. The same man who abducted my daughter Jade. I fought him for a prize called the W** Hardcore Title. and I won. I won my daughter, my life, and my pride back. See the one along my right leg? Given to me by a man who is my enemy, my partner, and my employer. I fought him for the same prize and kept it around my waist. And now I fight for a bigger prize. To defeat the Revolution. Can I get the two children in the chess finals up here, please?
One is a year seven, who is rather big and looks as if he plays a lot of sport. The other child is Jade, who comes back on from the side, smiling at her father.
Skyler: Now. What’s your name, son?
The bigger boy is David.
Skyler: Okay. Now, if I’m right from what Jade has told me, the finals are Jade vs. David. David isn’t even competition. David, you like sport, right? You watch wrestling? WFWF?
David: Uhh.. yeah.
Skyler: Well, you know The Revolution?
David: Yeah.
Skyler: You are The Revolution. Destined to be defeated at a Striker’s hands. You can all go sit down now.
The three boys leave the stage and Skyler picks Jade up on his shoulder.
Skyler: Danny and I will defeat these two little pipsqueaks who thought they could mess with the Vagrancy at Felo-De-Se. I have the drive, the determination, the experience, and the most important factor – I am a Striker. I’m Skyler god-damned Striker, and god help any man who stands in my way at Felo-De-Se. You two so called phenomenon – prepare to tread the floods.
Skyler goes to leave but Jade stops him, whispering in his ear and rolling her eyes.
Skyler: Oh yeah – stay in school, don’t do drugs, and aim to win. Rock on.
Skyler leaves with Jade on his shoulders and the whole assembly sits in part shock and part surprise as the scene ends.
