Wayne McGurk Felo-de-se RP: Change
Standing there, he watched, patiently for hours, as the surroundings came bare. Looking into the corner across him, a wall once covered by an old amour and scattered photos, was now empty; all there that lay now were indentations of the amour and frames that stood proudly over it- pale, discolored cubes.
Wayne stood by the front door- it was open for the whole damn world to see. Wayne pulled his box of Camel’s, tuned it sideways, tipped the bottom, took a stick, and lit it. Leaning against the bare olive walls, with his left foot pressed against the wall, he enjoyed his smoke; being in the situation he stood in the middle of, it was the only thing that kept him from going over the edge. Man, it was one of those things he just hated doing, but from the looks of things, it was about time; there was nothing left for him here. This was their home, but they just never got around to settling.
Vanessa stood on the other end of the hallway, right behind to what was, until this very morning, their bedroom. Vanessa motioned aside and let the movers come through with the night tables. In that plain white razorback, there was something about Vanessa today; one thing about her was that there was always something new to learn. She never completely gave herself, and she never will. The woman will always shift from Phoenix, wrestler, wife, mother, lover, friend, and his definition of her; and that’s perfect- he’ll always wonder.. Today, she was being what she had to be, and the man didn’t have the slightest clue of who or what she was. It was like that song she’d always play, she was building him a mystery; she was leaving him hanging- Who was this beautiful creature and how and why did she fall in love with him? God damn! With her arms crossed over the other, she watched the movers motion past Wayne as another set motioned into the apartment. Wayne kept his eyes locked upon hers, and watched as she turned her gaze away from the movers and caught his. They were looking eye-to-eye now, and feeling it gave him felt good; reckoned it was never going away. Vanessa pulled a smile and slowly drew herself back into the room. Turning away from him, Wayne took the cigarette away from his lips, and pressed his hand against his lips and blew her a flying kiss.
Just can’t stop can you?
Wayne tipped the ashes over the hardwood floor, and brought the Camel back against his lips. Drawing on the cigarette, Wayne motioned forward. Coming across the hallway, he took a look into Scarlett’s room. From the doorway, he watched as his child lay on the floor, sleeping; her body tucked beneath Vanessa’s Phoenix trench coat. Standing there, Wayne nodded before her, and again, took the cigarette away from his lips, pressed his hand against his lips and blew his child a flying kiss. It was time.
Wayne turned away and motioned to the bedroom, by now the entire apartment was emptied. Wayne pressed himself against the door and came in. From where he was, Vanessa stood against the window; the sun shining through Vanessa and the rest of the empty room. As Wayne approached her, he saw his reflection facing back at him- just floating over Vanessa. She still had both arms crossed, and from the look on her face against the reflection of the window, she looked intently over the city; as if she was missing it already.
Hey.
Hey.
Still looking out the window.
So, I reckon that’s the last of it.
It appears so.
Vanessa turned her head towards him.
I’m ready when you are.
I’ve got time.
As it appears.
Coming to him.
There’s still time to change your mind.
My mind’s all set; we’re going.
Why are you doing this?
For you.
Why?
Because you’re doing it.
How long were we here?
Four, five years.
And what has happened with in that time?
We got married; you gave birth to Scarlett; I came to the WFWF, I won the International title, I lost it, and now I run that place along with that Puerto Rican prick.
The last three all within the span of a year!
Wrapping her arms around him now.
God, I am going to miss this place; I am. Times change, people change, and things change, and it’s about time you did to.
Let me ask,
Vanessa pulled the cigarette away from his lips and threw it on the ground.
Who am I to you?
The love of my life; father of my child.
No, I mean as a person, how I come off as to you?
A nice guy.
Really?
You’re good to me, thus making you, Mr. McGurk, a nice guy. If you weren’t, I wouldn’t have fallen for you.
What else?
You really want me to list this all down for you?
I wouldn’t mind, now that you’ve mentioned it.
Prick.
C*nt.
Vanessa purred.
Let’s see… You’re a go-getter who gets the job done; you know how to get what you want. You’re aggressive- the kind that doesn’t back down to anyone. You’re willing to push yourself for the sake of it- you just don’t quit.
All too obvious!
Leaning in close.
Then what do you expect me to say?
Leaning close in kind.
Am I a bad guy?
Leaning closer.
You’re a bad ass, but you’re still a nice guy. You’re a nice bad guy, how about that; does it make you happy?
I’ll take it.
They were close now, their noses barely tipping. There was only one thing to do, and damn it, they did it, they kissed. Wayne grabbed her by the ass and hoisted her upon him; her legs now wrapped around his trunk. Wayne motioned towards the wall for a little support.
I’m not too heavy am I?
No baby, you’re just the way I like it.
Yeah…
Just dragging her words along.
Vanessa kissed him, but pulled away.
We can’t do this here.
Why not?
Nodding her head towards the open window.
So?
I don’t want the whole city looking at.
The whole city isn’t looking at us, the people across the street are.
I don’t know if I’m still in the mood.
I am.
I know. I can feel it.
