Back to the wonderful hallway I come, the hallway with all the doors to my life, but this time its different. The hallway is painted in black and all the doors are the same, steel painted black with a white handle on it. I begin my slow journey down the hallway, trying door after door, none of them opening, all seemingly locked, I throw my shoulder into some of them with no effect. None of the doors are opening, I press my ear to some of them, just to see if I could find out what is going on behind them, but there is no sound coming from the other side of the doors. Or at least if there is, the doors are too thick to hear through. The hall itself is dead silent, except for the sound of my footsteps echoing down the long and seemingly endless hallway. Every step is the same, I see door after door. All the same, yet I continue on walking, just walking and walking. The walls seem to be slowly lightening, the pitch black they were before is now replaced with a dark grey, the doors though stay the same, black and locked. The hall keeps on lightening as I walk. Dark grey to grey, grey to light grey, light grey to off-white, off-white to eggshell white. The doors though stay the same black, giving harsh contrast to the hallway now, though somehow I feel I’ve almost come to the end of my journey, the eggshell white of the walls slowly becomes a blindingly radiant white, the color of the walls actually begins to hurt my eyes, and now I can see it the end of the hallway and at the end, a blood red door. I reach out and touch it slowly and the warmth of it surprises me as I pull my hand back. I look over the door looking for a handle, but none is to be found. I take one step back and charge right into the door, it buckles quickly against me and fall flat into a room. I can’t see anything at first, the room is pitch black, but suddenly a light shines down from the ceiling, illuminating Todd, hanging from the ceiling by his hands. His eyes stare into mine, and though he is tied up he is smiling, the white of his teeth is blinding and his incisors seem to be fangs, he keeps smiling and I finally rise to me feet, I take two steps towards him before another light appears this time illuminating a black baseball bat. I look at Todd and his grin hasn’t changed. I’ll wipe that smug look off his damn face, I walk over and grab the bat and turn around, looking at Todd, his smile unwavering, but now my lips have spread into a wide grin as well. I walk slowly towards the hanging Todd, bat in hand.
Dane: I don’t know what fate has smiled down on my tonight, but now is when I gain my vengeance on you Todd.
I reach him and shove him with the tip of the bat, making him start to swing. His smile doesn’t change though, and my anger is rising in me. I pull the bat back and am about to swing when the voice in the back of my mind states one thing.
Voice: Redemption or Revenge.
The muscles in my arms are tense, the bat is cocked back. Todd is swinging right in front of me, the smile on his face unchanging.
Dane: I can’t do it, this isn’t right.
My muscles all relax and I turn around and head for the door. But his chilling voice suddenly reverberates through the room.
Todd: When I stabbed her, it felt good. Her blood gushing all over my hands, listening to her cries of pain, slowly watching her eyes roll up into the back of her head. It was like sex for me, I loved every second of it. And the icing on the cake is you got caught and blamed for it, and you were the one trying to save….That…..Stupid…..WHORE!!!!
His laughter fills the room, a sick, maniacal laugh, that sends chills through my body. Before I know what I’m doing I’m running straight at him, his laughter filling my ears. I swing the bat cracking him in the face, his laughter doesn’t stop though, and I keep swinging, hitting anything and everything I can, blood begins to fly and I can feel it hitting my face and body, but I don’t care, I just keep swinging, anything to stop that ing laugh, but it doesn’t stop, and I keep swinging till I can’t feel my arms and all that is hanging in front of me is a bloody, hunk of a meat, unrecognizable as a man, but yet the laughter continues.
Dane: STOP IT!!! I can’t handle that ing laugh
I fall to my knees as the laughter echoes all around me, I feel I’m about to be sick and close my eyes. The room is once again silent suddenly. I open my eyes slowly to look around and everything has changed. The room is once again black, and I can see nothing, I go to move but I am stuck on something, my arms are both raised and unmovable, I slowly begin to realize what is going on, when suddenly a spotlight turns on above me and I realize that I’m now hanging from the ceiling, covered in blood. Slowly Todd steps into the light, maimed and bloodied, but now recognizable holding a bat in his hands. He swings is and connects hard with my stomach, the air rushes out of my lungs and I try to curl up but my legs are tied up to a weight on the floor, Todd swings again connecting harshly with my chest, I feel at least 3 of my ribs shatter with that shot. Todd’s smile broaden as he brings the bat back and swings and connects hard with my left cheek, I feel the bones of my face melt away like ice in a hot sun, blood flies from my mouth and my eyes are clouded with blackness, but I slowly turn my head back and look back at Todd, but he isn’t there anymore, instead I see me standing there holding the bat.
Dane Doppelganger: Revenge will destroy you. Always remember that.
I watch as he pulls the bat back again and watch as the bat flies towards my face again, as it connects my whole words goes black. I slowly open my eyes and find myself in my apartment, lying on the floor of my bathroom, the bottle of Jack Daniels lying next to me empty. I sit up slowly and lean against the bathtub, I pull my cigs from my pocket and put it in my mouth and light it, I take a big drag on it, and let it out slowly through my nose.
Dane: Redemption or Revenge the only question I guess that matters.
I take another drag on my cig before I drag myself out of my bathroom and into my bed.
