I've been thinking... I'm getting the feeling that Jakks is going to keep the wrestling line going. Sure, it won't be current WWE superstars, but it will be like the legends and lesser known guys from the past.
If you think about it, Jakks has a couple more years on their contract, right? Why would they come out with new knee pads and elbow pads all of a sudden? Not to mention the number of new torsos that we've been getting. Now we've got the new Rey torso and the fatter Regal torso. I don't know why they'd invest in all of this when there's only a bit of time left on their contract. Not to mention the fact that we've made due for years before these newer torsos came out.
Another thing that got me thinking is why in the heck did Jakks ask us to fill out their little survey? IF you notice, there are a lot of old school dudes on that list. I think they're basically gathering info to see if there would be an interest in a "classic" line not affiliated with the WWE. Because there's no way in the world they're going to have time to create many more classics in the limited time that they have left.
I'm sure everybody thought about this before, or it has crossed everybody's mind, but it just came to my mind today.
So, I was wondering do you think a Jakks Non-WWE line would succeed in today's world? I know I would continue to collect them because they would fit with my current collection.

Personally,
If Jakks fear losing the contract, then they will use these extra pieces to make some really spot on figures to demonstrate to whomever is in charge of renewing the contract that they are able to really make the likenesses so spot on. Just to impress people.
Also, I do think that such a line would do well.
The problem is that some names are trademarks and so forth, so some of the names on the boxes wouldnt be the name the person wrestled under, which would bug your regular MOC collector.
I cant see Jakks losing the contract.
I believe they are the third most collected figure in the world (Star Wars being number one).
I think that alone will keep food on Jeremy's table.

I don't think it would survive without WWE. WWE is a brand name and helps to sell almost anything.
I think they are asking about other superstars because they know with all of the Hogans and HBK's already out, ideas are going to start running thin. And they want this line to go on because it's a popular line, which means more money for them. Jeremy said he hopes the line can get to at least until CS25. That doesn't mean 22-25 are already planned out. Plus, we wouldn't get 22-25 until around 2009. So that's plenty of time to get design some heads, show them to some guys, and try to get them to sign a contract.
I think it's because they are running out of ideas for the CS line. But that's me.
As for the new pads and torsos, I think they expect to keep their contract with WWE for a long time.

Whether they keep the license or not they had to make a few new torsos and pads. 2 more years would be about 800 more figures using the same few parts and the line won't look so impressive if they didn't keep adding a little bit of variety. I reckon the new pads were a must have really before the end of the line because other wise evey single figure would have the same pads for about 10 years which would look a bit lame. As for if and when they lose the WWE license, I'm not exactly sure what Jakks did that supposedly made WWE want rid of them but considering the petty things WWE has sacked alot of wrestlers for in the past I would think that however minor it was they'd be likely to get rid of Jakks just to prove a point that no one can mess with The WWE. I think it could be a good thing though as long as Jakks have got as much as possible from the CS line by then. If there are a few big names left to sign then I'm sure they could be done without the WWE's permission as long as Jakks aren't working with the WWE anymore. Most of the wrestlers used the same names and gimmicks outside of the WWE so I'm sure if Jakks was making RA figures for other wrestling promotions past and present then they would find it easier to sign names like Savage. I don't see why Jakks couldn't work with more than one wrestling company at a time as long as their figures are good enough for them to call the shots. RAs are so popular that it would be beneficial for anyone to have their figures made in that style. I even think it will damage WWE's popularity and ratings if they no longer have the same figures, I've found myself watching alot more current WWE on TV since I started collecting RAs which I got into after buying only CS to start with. So I think it's the best thing Jakks could do to improve the figures as much as they can before the end of the contract so that they no longer really need the WWE license.

I'm done speculating on whether Jakks keeps their WWE contract until late-2008. Simply, we don't know what is truly going on behind the doors of the negoiating room between Jakks & WWE.
I think that should Jakks decide to continue the CS line without any WWE trademarks and focus more on international superstars, there would be enough interest to keep that line going. As long as Jakks owns the likeness of the CS carding, then very little would be changed. I've been posting ideas such as this for a little while as it would be a great way to carry on with the CS just for a little while longer. But time will tell.

Yeah, it wouldn´t be WWE Classic Superstars but Jakks Classic Superstars with more Japanese, Mexican and non WWE affiliated talent. Jakks knows what´s going wrong with them and that collectors start ranting. So they´re trying something new to satisfy us. Even small pieces from Jakks but if we ARE satisfied, then they don´t see any reason to improve more. Don´t stop ranting and complaining, guys!

WWE simply just doesnt care as long as theyre making money. It really does seem Jakks would liek to serve it scustomers/ fanbase by giving us good talent in figure form but how can they with the legal problems and personal distastes that WWE backing comes with? You guys that want a classic Kurt wont get one because hes not with WWE and works for the competion as long as the 2 companies are still partnered. Macho, Owen, Sting, Douglas, Zbysko, even Jarrett all out the window for atleast another 2 years. I say Jakks should let things be. Then if they have the rights to the cards pump out a really awesome first set. I dont care if its something as minor as changing the card to green instead of black. I think Owens wife would gladly have a figure made of him if WWE wouldnt cash in on part of it. Thats probably whatholds lots of guy s and their families back.

Well, just consider this. If Jakks does lose their contract with WWE (And this is a strong *IF* here, people, because I see no reason why they would... Or at least a company that could replace them) Jakks still does own the concept of the RA style figure *AND* the DA style figure. So let's say that Jakks stops making WWE figures within the next few years. Well, then, the whole face of WWE figures as we know it is going to change. We won't have the RA style any more or the DA style. It'll be the day I stop collecting, but hey, I'm out of wrestling figures when the RA style ends any way (But that's another story)
Basically, if Jakks owns the RA style still (and DA style, yuck) they could continue the Classic Superstars line, just not under the WWE banner. Furthermore, Jakks could probably sign people (coughMachoMancough) who are being kept out of the line right now by WWE/Vince's ego/etc. Just something to think about. Because literally, the classic superstars line could go on for ten more years easily and not get boring or watered down. Signing someone fresh who could hold a lot of good repaints (Sting, Savage or Owen) would definitely do the trick.
Failing that, if Jakks does lose the WWE license, I'd like to see them start a FUTURE Stars Of Wrestling line. They could pimp out figures for wrestling superstars NOT in the WWE but on the indy scene. Think about it. If they made four at a time or so for the likes of ROH, CMLL, CHIKARA, CZW, FIP, SHIMMER, IWA-MS, etc., etc., they'd have plenty of business. They could be sold through the official web site of the promotion as well as at shows because, yeah, for some reason ROH does sell CS at their shows, so wouldn't it stand to make more money if they sold figures of AmDrag, Nigel, Jimmy Jacobs and Austin Aries? Jakks could put more detail into the figures, as well, and treat them more like IE's than being mass produced. If they went for a straight $10 or even $15 a pop I'd buy them just because it seems like something we'd never see, but damn if I don't want to make Austin Aries put a hurtin' on my John Cena figures.

if jakks doesnt make WWE figures anymore than who would? the TNA figures really arent that good, and i doubt they'll go back to small hasbro plastics. jakks is the only way to go. we all complain about how lazy they are at times but when you look at the big picture...think of how far the figure biz has come in the last 10 years...hell the last 20 years....we could still be playing with immobile, rubber figures...now they are just a piece of history. i for one hope as long as the wwe is in business that jakks NEVER stops making their figures. and as far as the classic line...why would it need to end? there are soooo many former stars that have not even been made let alone thought of...plus id love to see good repaints of certain guys. people will always buy. they'll always make money. i dont see it stopping any time soon.

I just wish the figures were smaller, I would love a 3 3/4" scale like hasbro does with GI Joe, Star Wars and the new Indiana Jones line

Well what youre saying does make slight sense but really to be honest, i just cannot see jakks losing the contract. WWE reported in one quarter it made a few million or so of the figures parts of sales and i doubt WWE would want to lose that.

Wow, if jakks looses the WWE figures, things are likely to get ugly.

Yeah, but WWE has been passing the WHC back and forth between Batista and Khali, which is a definite way to NOT make money. So you never know.

If jakks lose their contract, then basically the WWE figure line will end.
