....how in Gods name did we get Bret Hart? Sure he's probably one of the most known classics but I'd never have tought he'd agree to any contract or anything to do with WWE. Yet we've had him from the first series.
It does seem a little odd....

bret and warior were realy tryumphs for jakks to cick off and solidify the cs series. I was surprised to see them too. But i think the question shoud be reversed:
IF we got bret why cnat we get owen and savage?

bret needed the money. im surprised he even wanted to be in the wwe hall of fame. but notice how he didnt come out at wrestlemania because he was "uncomfortable". that would have been great if he had came out. the stadium would have gone completely nuts. lol kind of went on a tirade there haha.

I wouldn't have expected WWE to want to work with Ultimate Warrior again (or vice versa) especially after the DVD.
Bret had his WWE problems more public than anyone else, so I wouldn't have been surprised had we not gotten him either.
But I don't think we have Randy Savage because WWE doesn't want him. If WWE was against Bret for whatever reasons, then we wouldn't have him either. But WWE decided to bury the hatchet, give Bret a DVD and the HoF. Maybe next year (Not 2008, but 2009) WWE will bury the hatchet with Savage and give us a DVD of him, a HoF ceremony and some action figures. It'll be nice to boost the CS line as well.
In the end, it will all come down to money for WWE. If they keep up the way they are right now (And business is bad) odds are they'll put out a Macho Man DVD set and sign him for figures just to make ends meet.
Owen Hart is actually on the opposite side of the coin. It's not that WWE doesn't want him (As is the case with Savage), they simply cannot get Martha to sign. Now more so than Bret spitting at or punching Vince, Owen actually DIED IN THE RING. Think about that. And it wasn't a botched move like someone went for a DDT and really broke his neck. He did it doing some stupid stunt he really shouldn't have been asked to do in the first place. I look at Owen Hart as being a lot like the U.S. military. Both do things- and die for these things- which they shouldn't be asked to do, but they go on and do them any way and don't object because they're so noble. Compared to Owen Hart, Alundra Blaze (aka Madusa) throwing the WWF Women's Championship into a dumpster on Nitro seems like nothing.
I mean, just really think about it. This business- WWE- took away a man's life. They took away a husband and a father. I do not know what Martha Hart must be going through with this, but I cannot at all blame her for not wanting the company that did this to her to profit from his name any more.
Imagine if you were a famous celebrity. And you smoked a particular brand of cigarettes. Then- surprise- you found out you had cancer and died. Would you still want that company using your likeness and making money off of you after you were gone? And it's not like this big shocker that cigarettes cause death either. But putting Owen up in the rafters (Again, where he shouldn't be)... Shawn did it in WWE a bit, and Sting did it in WCW, so it doesn't really nearly imply as much death as you'd think smoking would. It was a freak accident, but one I do not blame Martha Hart for using to distance herself from WWE and everything related to it.
WWE (And you know they won't, those selfish bastards) should offer to make Owen Hart in the CS line for cost and then whatever profits are made go to charity. I think if Martha Hart knew that WWE wasn't making any actual money on this she might be more inclined to do it. But as far as WWE and Martha Hart are concerned... Probably less likely to happen than WWE signing someone under TNA contract (Like Sting) to the CS line.
For the record, while I love both Macho and Owen it's pretty easy to customize them now. I'd rather see guys that are harder to customize into the CS line. Seriously, where's Ricky Steamboat already? Isn't he a WWE employee? Whatever's going on between him and his ex-wife, just pay her off too and give us some Dragon figures!

The contract for the figure was with Jakks not the WWE...subject to the WWE's approval. But from what I remember reading was Bret and Vince were already talking as Bret wanted to get his wrestling footage released from the WWE. With Owen it's quite a bit different as his wife is understandably bitter towards wrestling/WWE and wants nothing to do with it. At least that's how I understood it.

First of all, there is good money in the action figure industry. Especially when Classic Superstars first started out. Jakks stock was soaring. It would have been a disadvantage for them not to sign.
I would rather have Brett Hart than Owen Hart. However, I would prefer a Randy Savage but I think I would take Warrior over Savage too.
You guys have to realize, everything is a business. WWE is running one, Bret Hart is running his own (marketing himself), Warrior, etc. If they want the exposure they will sign a deal. I think WWE is putting a lock on a few wrestlers because the WWE doesn't want them making money from the figures.
I definately think that we will see a Randy Savage figure (unless WWE keeps him locked out) mainly because he is supposed to be signed on for the next Surreal Life cast and that would mean that he wants all the exposure he can get.
Think about it, Hulk Hogan was back in the WWE with Figures when his TV show started and when his daughter's album came out, etc.
Brett Hart was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and had figures when he starred in Aladdin and when his book/DVD came out. It's called package marketing.
Strike it while the iron is hot. I don't know about Owen, that depends on whether or not his wife wants the money. As for Savage, I think the ball is in WWE's corner for that one.
Correct me if I'm wrong but Savage owns the rights to his name, so the WWE probably won't give him a figure until they get the rights for "Macho Man." Look at Honky Tonk Man, he was another tough sell.
Oh and I think that the Brett/Vince storyline was a total work. Eventually it will come out, that it was planned from the start. It gave WWE, Brett and the wrestling industry a ton of publicity.
