Yeah i got it today.
I checked the stock this morning online at about 9, and headed up to get it after dinner. I feel a little threatened actually, there were four in stock at 9 am, but only one in stock at 1pm, and it hasn't appeared in any catalogues or anything yet. This is the first time anything like that happened to me. So much for one MOC and one loose. How could such a horrible thing happen in such a quiet town?
But yeah, I'll pick one up another time again.
I posted detailed pictures in the loose database for anyone who has yet to see them. CAREFUL THOUGH, THERE ARE 22 HIGH QUALITY PICTURES!
loosejakks.proboards54.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=tripleexclusives&thread=1193189555
Heres my thoughts on the figures, Keep in mind im in Ireland, therefore Edge is new to me and hasn't been released here before.
Matt: Lookng at the MOC pics posted by fig a nomics, (I originally though Matt would be the figure i wouldn't care about) i thought he looked pretty damn sweet. He had plain black pants and shoes. White wrist tape, white belt and black hair. I know that all seems like a description of a negative (as in a negative from a photograph), but i always like when figures are clad in black. It looks more realistic in my opinion. Darker clothes on figures are superior in my opinion (generally speaking, of course).
So Matt was pretty good looking. I was looking forward to the whole set. Yay.
However, what a disaster. Maybe its just me, i don't know, But Matt's head is tiny. It doesn't look too bad in pictures, but in-person it looks.. bleh. Also, as goes with a small head scan, the plastic on the bottom of the head and the top of the neck isn't seperated as much as it should be, Meaning that, you guessed it, moving his head is a horrible task. Literally having to squeeze his head as hard as i can to turn it isn't my idea of a great exclusive figure.
Jeff: Obviously the star of the pack. Jeff is the guy the kids are gonna persecute their parents to get. Not bad, not good. A lack of facial hair is a worrying thing. I am not new to collecting and I am not new to Jakks. But.. At least put detail into a figure that you call an "Exclusive". Of course, no kid is gonna say "Mammy, Mammy MAMMY, Get me that Jeff figure! i always wanted Jeff because i am in love with him like so many other kids and we don't realise he is totally overrated in every way", and then when they get the figure say "Oh, Jakks decided not to give him facial hair, I don't want it anymore."
So i can see where Jakks are coming from. They're making the set for kids. Do i blame Jakks for cutting that corner? If jakks said "look, the kids can't get a Jeff. The scalpers are grabbing them everywhere, cutting this corner will save us a few dollars on paint. The kids will buy it purely because its Jeff."
Can you argue with that? No. You logically can't disagree.
However, that logic isn't correct. When i went looking for my complete PPV 14, I had no trouble finding them. Jeff warmed shelves. I got him with ease. Jakks must realise there is a difference between the US and Ireland/UK. Scalpers are non-existent in Ireland. Our prices are ridiculous, so we can't make a profit selling stuff on the net. therefore we don't bother attempting. Also, this figure is exclusive to 10,000 pieces. there have to have been more PPV14 Jeffs than that. Yet, he gets the facial hair.
Exclusives are gonna be bought by collectors before they're bought by kids. The word "Exclusive" screams at a collector. No matter how bad the set may be, if i don't buy it i feel guilty. I hate to think that some time i'll be saying to myself "should've gotten that set whilst i could."
Anyway, moving away from his facial hair.. and sorry for going on about it so much, just makes me annoyed.
His hair has more than one colour which is cool. The arm bands are nice, too. but doesn't jeff wear the same two colours on both arms generally? inverting them on each arm? I'm not sure, but i think it woulda looked better anyway.
Looks like after inspecting of the set a little, Jeff really isn't the star.
Which means that the star must be..?
Edge: Well.. Yeah. Screaming scan isn't a plus, but it works pretty well. A slight altering in colours is the only real difference here. Although, Unlike when some people change their attire ever so slightly (Shawn Michaels from tights to pleathers for example) and it isn't much of a difference, when some people do it (Kane from red w/ black to black w/red for example) it just makes you feel a whole lot better.
Edge is the latter. Some people change their attire to make themselves look better. From tights to trunks (Triple H), trunks to tights (Hogan) or even just small colour changes on a regular basis (Angle) its done to freshen them up. Sometimes its horrible, other times its great.
As simple a repaint as it is, A blue Edge is fantastic. When i seen it was a US exclusive with a ring, i got really pissed. I thought it looked awesome. I wanted it, and in the end, i got it. I don't know if there are any differences between the US and UK versions (doubtful) but it really is cool. However, as much as i can sing its praises...
Wheres the exclusivity of it? Is it because its only in Ireland? No? oh.. only in the whole of the UK then? No? Not that either?
But of course, its available, easily, worldwide.
Overall, the set just serves as a reminder that Jakks are slipping. As much as i hate to say it, as i am one of the people who would like Jakks to stay on after 09, Its becoming more and more apparent every series.
Surely throwing Edge's new "Smirking" scan onto this figure wouldn't cause any problems? then i'd feel good being able to say "screw you America, Look what we got first!". But no.
The word "Exclusive" is as loosely used as the word "Classic" and "Limited Edition" by Jakks.
Sadly, it looks like WWE squashing its Jakks deal would be the better choice for consumers worldwide. As Vince Mcmahon would say "You can't argue with success", Jakks have proven him wrong. We can argue, and we do. Jakks decide to overlook the numerous complaints and continue to "drop the ball" as they stumble into the future.
I think we've all seen the DA Three pack Edge? With its lack of logos, camo, and just general detail.
We, as collectors, MUST put our foot down. Enough is enough.
You aren't happy with Jakks ruining RA29 Edge. You aren't happy with Jakks ruining the Four Horsemen. You Aren't happy with Jakks not painting the back of UF3 John Cena's head. You aren't happy with Jakks signing Tank Abott. You aren't happy with Jakks messing up CS Kane's mask. You aren't happy with Jakks messing up the RSR Chamber. You aren't happy with Jakks not including (advertised) cardboard cut-outs with their rings. You aren't happy with no bullet-proof vest with JTG. You aren't happy two skin tones on Candice's figure. You aren't happy with Vince being taller than other wrestlers. You aren't happy with Edge Constantly getting muscular torso's. You aren't happy with Jakks changing ECW's carding at the last minute. You aren't happy with Lance Cade getting no ring gear figures.
Yet... guaranteed you bought them anyway.
The only way you're gonna get your opinion heard, is if you give it to them. E-mail them with your list of complaints. When you go to ringside fest, tell them that their product sucks. Tell them straight to their faces that they are selling sh*t! Make them feel embarrassed to be representing Jakks.
What use is it saying how much you love the product when they have become so much noticeably worse. Jakks are taking the piss out of us at this stage, and i for one am sick of it.
As you all know i've been working on the loose database. I, myself, have taken about 1,000 pictures. When you do that for so long you realise how crappy the product really is. Why did i buy this new so called "Exclusive"? Because i want figures of the people i love. I admire Edge and the brothers because theyve succeeded in the wrestling world. Jakks shouldn't take advantage of the consumers and fans of WWE, and I am genuinely shocked that WWE haven't stepped in yet and said "what exactly is this crap?".
Needless to say, right after i press "post message" here, I'm sending an e-mail to Jakks, Jeremy and WWE. I feel so sorry for Jeremy. Hes like John Cena walking into one night stand.
Actually, let me correct that. He SHOULD be like John Cena marching into one night stand. But instead, He will be like Hulk Hogan strolling into WrestleMania. I can't be at ringside fest. If i could, i would.
Those of you who are gonna be there should get your lips of Jakks' ass and put your foot up it.
Unfortunately... I can't see that happening.
What a figure review this was... So yeah, buy the set if you want the Edge. He's the only half decent looking figure. But his torso mould is too big for his crotch mould so it overlaps. Doesn't seem like Jakks to make a mistake like that.
