as of late when ive watched wwe ive been highly unimpressed if not bored with matches, and really only watch it for the storylines i know a lot of ppl will bash me but i think the actual "wrestling" portion of wwe is downright boring right now i watched an old 1999 pay per view and was amazed because every match even to the lowest undercard match was exciting or at least entertaining and included some cool spots now everything just feels so "by the book" "wrestling 101" and average. your thoughts?

Yeah, the wrestling has gone down a little but it picks up & falls, picks up & falls, back & fourth.

It's currently better that the WM23 time. The matches were pretty boring then and the event itself really sucked IMO (except Cena vs. HBK). Personally, I watch TNA for the wrestling and WWE for the characters and storylines. There's no denying that the WWE are far superior at development of superstars etc.

The past few months we've been treated to Elijah Burke vs. Punk, Matt Hardy vs. Mr. Kennedy, Cena vs. Michaels II, Randy Orton vs. Edge, Santino vs. MVP, Hardyz vs. Cade & Murdoch, and plenty of other great matches. And they were all broadcasted on national television for the public to see for free.
WWE match quality is just fine right now.

Yeah, you might be right. I suppose it has declined a little bit as of late. I still like it though.

I can agree with you, because I haven't watched SmackDown! in a while, but I am going to the GAB so I better pick it all up again...

I think the wrestling quality definately fluctuates. It's really ashame that WWE is the pinnacle of professional wrestling and yet the quality fluctuates so much. You should never pay 70 dollars for a decent ticket and come away feeling like you didn't even get 20 dollars worth. Unfortunately, that's often the way you feel after a WWE show. Some shows are of a higher quality than others, but it shouldn't be that way. Especially the quaility of the PPV's. Even though WrestleMania 23 was the first WrestleMania I attended live, I will still admit that it was not one of the best. Backlash was an outstanding PPV and then, since Backlash, they have ran 3 horrible shows in a row. The booking that went into Judgment Day, One Night Stand, and Vengeance was absolutely terrible.

Matches are not nearly as entertaining or creative as they used to be. Ironically enough, I think the main reason to attribute that to is all the match stipulations that have been created over recent years. It just takes away the fun and excitement of a normal wrestling match.
Also, if you watch any match from the 80s and early 90s, you'll see that the referees would play a much larger role in wrestling matches. Now, the refs are seemingly invisible outside of the "ref bumps" we get during title matches.
A lot of the changes can be attributed to the way the business has changed and developed, the new generation of fans, different writing teams, etc. But I still can't help but wonder whenever I'm watching an old episode of Raw or Nitro how the WWE can't replicate that exciting 2 hour show anymore. For the last several years, for me at least, Raw MAYBE has one good wrestling match per show. And that's a stretch. SmackDown! is more consistant, as far as putting on quality wrestling is concerned, and ECW seems to be following that pace as well.
To me, the entire outlook of the business really did change when it became WWE. Since then, Vince has focused 80% of his attention to what he thinks is "entertaining," and 20% wrestling.

Absolutely agree. Watch something from 2000 and now and there a lot more energy not just to the matches but also the performers. I don't know what moral in the back is really like, but I can guess its not a really happy mood because most matches and the wrestlers seem to just be going through the motions. This is not reflective of everyone, but a lot of them. Another thing is how Vince has neutered a LOT of the really exciting moves that have always been allowed before. Not just the really sick bumps, but the things some guys are just better at. In was in the interest of safety, but it only hurts the overall product. Besides, its wrestling...these guys know what they're doing and injury is going to happen regardless.

The quality of wrestling matches has been declining for years in the WWE. It's been far too long since matches were fun to watch. Pro wrestling should be all about handicapped matches between wrestlers dressed as priests versus a team of four midget nazis.

There's much better wrestling elsewhere, thus the match quality for me as a viewer as severely declined. Therefore, with Ring of Honor, IWA Mid-South, PWG, CZW, NOAH, Dragon Gate, TNA, and FSM all producing better angles and matches it's very obvious that WWE's matches and angles have declined.
