5 Point Plan to help WWE.
1.Back to basics- Lets return to the days of guys having simple issues with each other and building these issues over a month period. A good example of this was on Smackdown when Crime Time stole Deuce and Dominos car. This gives them a reason to feud that is basic but realistic its creates personal tension without being over the top unrealistic and silly. Creating feuds based on simple issues such as envy, distrust, break ups of friendships are far more convincing that over the top Hollywood stunt shows.
2. Bring back some old favourites- I think it would be a good idea to bring some of the more traditional elements, for example bringing back the interview stage and interviewer possibly Mean Gene (anyone but Maria). This would give a focus away from the ring which has become boring an played out (e.g. Cutting Edge, Jericho’s interview show, Carlito’s Show).
3.Realistic storylines not real life- As we have learnt over the past week there is too much tragedy going on in the real world without WWE making fantasy tragedies. If we have to try and think about suspending our belief instead of just doing it without thought then its not really having the desired effect.
4.More emphasis on Divisions- This is the one thing that I think TNA does really well. Make sure that every division has its own identity, have all the guys in the mid card chasing after the I-C belt and treat that as their version of the world belt with interesting feuds and storylines. The same goes for the U.S Title and Tag Team titles. Back in the early 90’s everyone knew which division a wrestler belonged to and it was his aim to go after the belt that was at the top of that division, that is something that I think is lost in modern wrestling.
5. Bring back factions/managers- I think one of my favourite times in wrestling was when there where factions in the late 90’s. Having a faction of wrestlers under an identity helps create a more legitimate feel, more like a sporting event where you have teams facing off and battling for supremacy. This has been done to some extent in ECW with the New Breed Vs Originals but Id love to see it on Raw with guys like Orton (with Kennedy, Dykstra, Cade, Murdoch) and HBK (with X-Pac, CM Punk, Matt and Jeff Hardy) lead their own factions.
Thanks for reading any feedback is good.
