Don't know, but I am also interested in some details.
Last I heard, WWE sent Congress a letter explaining what they would and would not provide them, their reasons why, and offered to meet with the committees at their earliest convenience to explain various things. Maybe this is the meeting.

The reason McMahon didn`t do jail time is because of Hogans testimony. Heres an exerpt from that trial. " Mr. Bollea said that he took anabolic steroids not only for body building but "to heal injuries, to keep on going," but that he no longer uses the drugs. During cross-examination, Laura A. Brevetti, a lawyer for Mr. McMahon, sought to demonstrate that the steroids were not used or distributed illicitly. "I believed it was legal because I had a prescription for it," said Mr. Bollea. He also said that Mr. McMahon never ordered him to take steroids and never purchased any steroids for him. "

I thought this was about a guy who was actually on top of Nancy Grace last night and he was going to tell the story of how her roast beef tasted. Anyway.....
I hope WWE does not get shutdown because of this. At least I have DVD's if it does.

WWE won't be shut down because of this... The worst I could see happening is that a few workers would get released from their contract or suspended or something like that... So maybe it will be a good thing, it MAY get Batista or Khali or Cena off the TV for a little while...
If the WWE were shut down then I would imagine TNA would get shut down shortly after... just because the WWE have atleast some kind of testing policy in place, it's a given that if they get shut down, then a company with no policy in place would too...

He testified that Vince never pressured anyone into taking steroids, nor did he supply them. Vince McMahon, in turn, testified that Hogan is a liar. A dumbass decision like that.. and people are surprised that the WWE has been in such a crapty state for so long...

Do you guys really think that WWE will get shut down from this? I'm not saying they wont, its just that I dont really know much on this situation. I doubt they'd be shut down. I think the basic accusation against WWE is that their policies aren't strict enough, testing isn't good/frequent enough, and that their lifestyle needs to change so guys don't feel the need to abuse painkillers and steroids to succeed. Even if Congress decided all of that were true, I think the worst that would happen is wrestling gets regulated like boxing and MMA is (where the testing is completely out of WWE's hands and the punishment for failed tests is decided by the regulating body). I think the goal here is to make the wrestling lifestyle healthier, and to get tough on people who somehow get around the testing. You might see a lot of guys get less muscular over time. You might also see guys take more time off than usual, because if they can't abuse painkillers and get away with it, they'll have no choice but to get off the road and heal when they're hurt. You might even see a different schedule, so the wrestlers aren't on the road all year. WWE will have to seriously screw up to get shut down all together. They'd have to completely refuse to cooperate with Congress, and leave them no choice but to shut down WWE... and I don't see WWE being that foolish. TNA is actually in the same boat as WWE, because Congress asked TNA and the NWA both to provide the same type of info on drug testing that they asked WWE for. TNA might be in worse trouble than WWE, because nobody seems to think they have any testing at all. If Congress finds that out, I have a feeling they'll be in more hot water than WWE, because at least WWE makes a half-assed attempt to test.

From what I heard it wasn't really Hulk Hogan's testimony that got Vince off. It was actually Kevin "Nailz" Wacholz that unintentionally saved Vince. Basically Nailz made it clear in his testimony that he hated Vince and I believe that caused the credibility of the opposing sides to be qiestioned.
As for Congress, I don't think WWE would have had much problems if Congress was only after them. They probably would've forced WWE to fill out all the blanks in their existing drug policy and that's it. Congress may come down harder on wrestling due to all these other wrestling groups having no drug policy at all.

Congress could not shut down the WWE for not cooperating.
This is just an inquiry, not a federal investigation.

Even if congress had the ability to shut WWE down for this, which they dont, they would also have to do the same to the MLB. Plus NBC Universal wont lose a 6 million person(ratings based) demographic over this. If it came down to that NBC Uni. would step up with lawyers that not even the US govt could get past. It's not just they'd lose mass ratings that quick, they would lose advertising revenue which is what would really piss them off.
But the most that could happen is the government will make WWE answer to a governing body similar to MMA does. Which even that is unlikely. I'm sure the one thing they want to find out is why there's a period of time no testing took place. This is just like the MLB hearings, kind of. They want to know who's on steroids so they can show the public that not even what some people call a "fake sport" is out of their reach. More than likely this will have positive outcomes.

Credit: Wrestlingobserver.com The WWE corporate web site at www.wwecorpbiz.com has a copy of Jerry McDevitt's letter to Henry Waxman's committee today. They sent all drug testing records dating back to 1998, saying there were no records available before that time.
