No because he won the WCW title while in WWE, but it was still called the WCW championship. If they didn't do it that way the whole what titles are which thing would be harder to follow than it is now.

It was still the WCW championship, I understand what you're thinking but technically he is a five time champ.

but hasn't he been a "world" champ more than 5 times, just always been curious 'bout that??? if a heavyweight title is defended around the world then it has the right to be called a world title. but if the title isnt defeded around the globe then it can only be called a heavyweight title

Isn't he a 6 time world champion technically. Other wise Ric Flair couldn't be called a 16 time world champion.

The company may have gone under, but the lineage of the WCW title continued uninterrupted until Jericho won the Undisputed Title.

I had forgotten that the number was quite so high, but this is true (or at least close). Several of Ric's NWA Title wins have traditionally been unrecognized . . . . like when they portrayed him as becoming a 2 time Champ after Starrcade '83 and he was actually a 3 timer after that win. Flair himself states in his book that he dropped and regained the belt several times in random cities where the results weren't promoted or acknowledged . . .
