I was going to do this eariler but wanted to make sure I wanted enough time because I wanted to make this as detailed as possible. This will be probably the best write up you read (though it is 3 days after the event). And don't say "BFG thread" I know why I posted this on the main board. This is going to be a long read so if you hate those just skim or click back.
First I arrived in Deluth (town the show was in) around 2pm after coming from Charlotte, NC (race weekend). Checked into my motel 6 room (nice room btw, best looking motel 6 i've ever stayed in and I've been in many). I watched some football to kill time. Left the motel at 5:30 and in about 8mins literally (i timed it) I got to the arena.
Nice to see a road sign that said TNA WRESTLING on the right. The big Gwinnett sign also had the BFG logo on it. Got to the arena and the line wasn't bad. I didn't feel like waiting so I sat on the wall. Local radio station 96.1 was playing rock music. That was great, made the time fly by.
Some guy said over the loud speaker said that Karen Angle & Rick Stiener would be signing autographs & taking photos at the merchandise table for $10. All proceeds going to some charity. I just jumped in line because I was by myself and didn't give a **** if anyone got mad if I cut them or not.
I got in and didn't see any signing yet so I bought my event shirt and headed to my seat. Stoped at the bathroom. You would think for a good size arena they would have more than 4 stalls in a bathroom.
Went in and so the cameras on the opposite side. I was going to be on TV all night!! Took pictures of the ring and stage. Val came out and was out in the crowd with the TNA title belt. I didn't bother to get a photo or a autograph. Same with Dixie Carter. I wish I did now as I type this.
The ring announce came out (I still don't know this guys name lol). He announced JB and out he came. He talked about the fan fest the day eariler and the superstars from GA. He said BFG is the biggest event of the year and people from all around the world will be watching and people from all around the world are in attendence. He asks where everyone is from. People are yelling all sorts of things. I held up my "I drove from Rhode Island" sign and JB read it exactly off it. People from Scotland were even here.
The first preshow match was Joey Mattews & Johnny Swinger doing an MNM gimmik. They wore white pants with like black beads/circles/diamonds/whatever and matching coats (not fur just a coats). MCMG came out to a large pop. Crowd loves these guys. Mattews & Swinger tried to go for a snapshot but was countered and MCMG won.
The second was a local DJ from that radio station 96.1 This guy talked and was heavily boo'd. A we want wrestling chant started. He challenged Traci Brooks of all people. The deal was if the DJ won Traci would have to go back to his hotel for the night and if Traci won she would get to kick him in the nuts. The bell rang and Traci kicked him in the nuts first and then pinned him. Slick Johnson reffed this, glad to see him back.
The show kicked off w/ ultimate X as you know. Crowd was spilt like 60-40 with LAX 60, XXX 40. Great match. Crowd loved when Elix crossed bodied off the X and when Hernadez did the border toss to the outside.
Kurt Angle backstage
Fight for the right was next. This was great live. Sonjay was hiding near me. VKM was also in front of me. and I believe Chris Harris was also. The crowd hated when Rikishi got in first. Once 4 people were in Billy Gunn turns around and yells "I'm getting paid to lose so I'm gonna go drink now". EY won and after reading reports it was for no reason lol.
backstage stuff
Crowd LOVED AJ Styles. Mainly Gainsville, GA is right up the street. Apollo Creed was getting boo'd but people were acting saying wow on his wrestling skills. The guy behind was yelling so bad at Pacman he walked to the other side of the ring. It was like "You're suppose to wrestle you piece of ****. You suck you piece of ****." Pacman yelled shut the hell up and walked to the other side and stayed over there. When Pacman "made it rain with $1 bills" & Earl started to pick it up was gold. Glad AJ & Tomko won this. I was next to the guy w/ the Tomko gimme a beat sign. It was great when Tomko looked at it and shaked his head no.
The X Division title match was great. Crowd was split. People were chanting BME whenever Daniels had the chance. The top rope Lethal Combination was great.
The tables match was next. The stage crew set up tables and one was right in front of me (Rick Stiener took it later on). This was a great match with a great finish.
The Knockouts match was next and mainly all but Kim & thankfully Kong didn't have DD fake boobs. Which was funny. Really glad Kim won. The white belt looked cool.
Joe & Christian Cage was probablt MOTN IMO. I truly though Morgan was going to screw someone but he didn't. The crowd loved Joe but there was a good cage support.
Monster's ball was fun. Raven got busted open early. Missed on what. When they came into the crowd it was great. They were all over the place. When raven & dustin did the table spot black reign came back to the ring busted open. It was cool because Reign was only bleeding on one side of his face. Half paint and half blood. The glass & tacks spot was sick which it should be.
Before the main event started Nash came out and sat in the first row of the bleacher seats. This was a great match. Due to Sting's bad eye hand cordination he missed catching the bat and ended up getting busted open. I truly thought Jarrett was going to come out after Nash interfered.
Great F'n night here some notes
the place was far from a sellout. Looks like Pacman's 1500 tickets never showed up. The Camera side seats looked packed and great. The other side had many random seats avaiable. The upper balcany had many seats. They should of just upgraded everyone to lower arena to make it look better.
I tried to get one of those BFG banners hanger on the rails but they were zipped tied. I was yanking on them but got yelled at.
TNA needs to bring all there merchandise to their shows. All they had were shirts, hats, & dvds. I was expecting to see posters and figures too but didn't
The Gwinnett arena is really nice. Every seat is padded in the bleacher seats. and so were the floor. Security is nice and doesn't yell at you all the time like at the RI arenas or Boston. Though after the arena I went outside to make a phone call and tried to go back in and got kicked out. They have a strick no re-entry policy. I dunno why. I couldn't find the back of the arena to get autographs so I just headed back to the motel.
Also I don't get why people bring WWE signs to a tna show. I can understand wearing a wwe shirt becuase it may be the the only wrestling shirt you got. But why did I see a Hardy Boyz, Big Daddy V, & Edge & Khali should have a chin match sign??? But they didn't take them away. You hear WWE is very anal with thier signs. I've read theat they took all signs away and passsed out their own at the UK shows.
I'll answer any questions if any. I to this day I truly believe TNA puts on better shows than WWE in 2007. In 07 I've been to 2 WWE (SD/ECW & Raw house show) & 3 TNA (house show & 2 PPVs). The crowd is more into the shows and the action is great. Call me a TNA mark IDC, I'll probably agree.
