What was the deal behind this gimmick that never happened? Was it meant for Kenzo Suzuki?

Dan Madigan created a Hirohito gimmick for Kenzo Suzuki`s WWE debut, but the idea was dropped and he debuted under his real name

Yeah, I believe one of the promos actually aired on RAW in about May 2004. He was scheduled for a World Title feud against Benoit, or so i've heard.

It was meant for Kenzo, but he felt it would be disrespectful to his people and told Vince so. In the end they decided to drop the gimmick and debut him under his real name.

Hirohito was the 124th Emperor of Japan who died in 1989, he was also the longest reigning Emperor in history thats why he felt it would be disrespectful.
