This is the first sig I have made in Photoshop since downloading the trial, but I have made 1 or 2 sigs before using software similar. So what do you think? I'm unsure about the text...

Don't use that effect on you pics. It makes them look ugly. The background has a nice concept but again the effect is bad. Try using a different white as that's a flat out boring font. www.dafont.com

as blade said, don't use the brush strokes effect or whatever. Try to make the size of your banner a bit bigger so it wouldn't look at clutered. The text is a bit hard to read as opposed to its color that fits no where in the graphic. Try adding effects to your text and banner. try this.
When you first get your pic and you got it all cut and ready to go.
Go to Edit>Adjustments>Levels
There should be 3 boxes with 3 different numbers. Try changing the first box to 21 and the third one to 200. See how it turns out. You can fool around with this and many other things on photoshop. Expermentation is key and everyone's got to start somewhere.
