I'm hoping some of the Canadian online stores have orders soon, if not, I'll wait until after the holidays to get one. They've removed all the "order now" buttons from Best Buy/Future Shop. It's been replaced with "Updates"

I've reserved one for the second batch. I might just try to get to a 24 hr. Wal-Mart, and see if I can get one there instead of waiting.
A couple questions for whoever cares to answer:
1.) If I go to a 24 hr. Wal-Mart, what time should I get there?
2.) What model are you buying? I'm going to get the 20 gig.

You'll want to get there like 10 in the morning the day before it gets there at the latest

I went to TRU last night, and I saw about 3 or 4 people sitting in chairs with ragged blankets draped over them. I swore they were hobos, but then I saw that the sign nexts to them said something about PS3. If hobos are buying PS3, they have some major priority issues.

My friend works at Wal-Mart and he said they will be giving out numbers around 10am the morning before the PS3 is released and you can leave and come back. They are getting in only 8 systems.

My friend works at Wal-Mart and he said they will be giving out numbers around 10am the morning before the PS3 is released and you can leave and come back. They are getting in only 8 systems. The amount of systems each big retail store (wal-mart, circuit city, best buy, target, etc) gets depends on how well they sell sony products. The same thing happened with the 360. Stores that sold a lot of xbox games and systems got more than those with poor sales.

Sony Misses PS3 Shipping Targets Japan gets even fewer units.
by Anoop Gantayat
October 30, 2006 - What's worse than 100,000 units at launch? How about 80,000? The Nikkei Keizai Shimbun morning edition reports today that due to component shortages, Sony will have only 80,000 units ready for the PS3's 11/11 Japanese launch. This cuts back by a fifth the initial launch target of 100,000.
The lack of digits in that number is even more staggering when you consider that the PS2 sold out of nearly a million units when it launched back in March of 2000.
Having lived through a few weeks of attempting to obtain a PS3 pre-order, we're not too surprised by the lowered shipping numbers. Allocations disappeared quickly at online retailers that were brave enough to start pre-order programs. The online arm of media retailer Tsutaya ran out of units in 6 minutes according to Nikkei (it felt more like 1 minute to us).
Major electronics chains like Yodobashi Camera won't be taking pre-orders, Nikkei reports, so there's only one option left: line up the day before launch. Although with fewer units to go around, we're considering getting in line starting from the week prior.

Here is a list of the launch and launch window lineup for PS3. This comes from the manager of my EB. I wouldn't call him a friend but we chat via e-mail and play on XBL so he sent it to me.
Launch Lineup:
Rsistance Fall of Man (First Person Shooter) (PS3 Exclusive) Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007 (Sports) Tony Hawk's Project 8 (Sports) Madden 07 (Sports) Full Auto 2 (Racing) (PS3 Exclusive) Call of Duty 3 (First Person Shooter/Action) Sonic The Hedgehog (Adventure/Platformer) Marvel Ultimate Alliance (Adventure) Mobile Suit Gundham: Crossfire (Action) (PS3 Exclusive) Ridge Racer 7 (Racing) (PS3 Exclusive) NHK 2K7 (Sports) Genji: Days of Blade (RPG) (PS3 Exclusive) NBA 07 (Sports) NBA 2K7 (Sports) Blazing Angels (Action) Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom (RPG) (PS3 Exclusive)
Now heres the current list of games due out in the launch window aka before the end of 2006:
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (RPG) Gran Turismo HD (Racing) (PS3 Exclusive) Rainbow Six Vegas (First Person Shooter) Fight Night Round 3 (Sports)
It's not that impressive IMO and I see no reason to buy the system anytime soon.

Resistance is the only game on there that looks solid to me. I would say Oblivion but I have playing that since it released on 360.

My friend is hooking me up with a 10% discount. That isn't much, but it's a nice amount saved on a $600 system. Also, he has info from "the down-low" that my local Walmart is releasing the console 2 days ahead of time. They will have chairs lined up in the electronics department.

There's no way they are releasing it 2 days early. Sony is super strict about their DVD releases. There is no telling how much they would fine them if they did this. My Wal-Mart store was fined 10 grand for selling Spider-Man 1 a week early.

I'll be buying a PS3 eventually, if only for the fact that it's $400 saved on a Blu-Ray player. As for the lack of excitement about the new formats, that always happens. Who cared about DVD's when they first came out in 1997 besides cinephiles? Nobody.
Then the PS2 came out, giving kids and teens (aka the most popular word of mouth market) direct access to DVD players when they were still relatively expensive for the everyday consumer that doesn't care about new technology. I didn't give half a crapabout DVD's until I got my PS2, then I started buying a few, and before I knew it I had well over 600. I have a strong feeling the same will happen with Blu-Ray, and this will lead them to win the format war. I mean, there is going to be no alternative for HD-DVD, it's either the $1,000 player or nothing. Many people will be buying the PS3 reguardless, thus leading to a hightened interest in Blu-Ray. And no, it won't happen right away.
On a different note, my problem with wanting a PS3 is the same as X360....I don't have an HD TV, so it's useless to have higher technology played on an inferior TV. And I'm not going to have the money to buy one for a while, and then it's saving again for the PS3.
As for the shortage, what's new? People act like it's always a mistake, but with the last 4 major system launches, it happens every time. It's to drive interest in the system.
On the promotional end, they've done a terrible job. Everyone that comes into Blockbuster (where I work) asked about pre-orders, but we never had them. Because they knew there wouldn't be any available no matter what. So as big a relative failure as the X360 was (in comparison to the money they COULD'VE made, had they not shorted the release) I think the PS3 will be even worse.
However, this doesn't affect my wanting one, even if I don't play video games or want a PS3 for them. I only want it becasue it's a cheap Blu-Ray player, but as I mentioned, a Blu-Ray player is useless to me since I don't have a TV that does it any justice. Oh well.

That's not very many at all.
