You're a HUGE company and it takes you this long to get your services up and running? That article basically says, we lied and we still have no idea when it'll be up. If I didn't just switch to PS3, I would really consider switching back to Xbox. This is horrible service.

If I didn't just switch to PS3, I would really consider switching back to Xbox. This is horrible service. K. Go fix it. Do it better, make it more secure, and do it faster then they did. This attack was on a monstrous scale, and they had to rebuild the entire network and all the servers from the ground up. I swear, I can't wait to get the PSN back up and running just so the non-stop stream of incessant bitching stops. I don't even care about playing online anymore....I just want the bitching to stop.

Today, 1 week after that, they say that its going to take longer. Your telling me that YESTERDAY they didn't know if they'd make the week deadline. And your telling me now, with this new update that says its going to take longer, that they can't even give us an updated time frame now?? They didn't meet a deadline thats fine, but the nice thing to do what be to then give an updated time frame since they didn't meet their date. But instead we get more, "working around the clock, will be up "soon"" bull crap. Here's the newest update by the way: Service Restoration Update+ Posted by Patrick Seybold // Sr. Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media As you may know, we’ve begun the process of restoring the service through internal testing of the new system. We’re still working to confirm the security of the network infrastructure, as well as working with a variety of outside entities to confirm with them of the security of the system. Verifying the system security is vital for the process of restoration. Additional comprehensive system checks and testing are still required, and we must complete that process before bringing the systems online. As you’ve heard us say, our utmost priorities are the security of the network and ensuring your data is safe. We won’t restore the services until we can test the system’s strength in these respects. When we held the press conference in Japan last week, based on what we knew, we expected to have the services online within a week. We were unaware of the extent of the attack on Sony Online Entertainment servers, and we are taking this opportunity to conduct further testing of the incredibly complex system. I completely understand they want to get everything right. But A. Their security should of already been in good shape. B. They are a huge company with a lot of money, it really shouldn't take THIS long. And lastly C. They were already previously attacked before this one, they could of worked on it, but chose not to, and waited for a disaster like this to occur. I don't know, maybe I'm being impatient.

People need to relax. This was like the biggest cyber hacking of information in history. They aren't going to just throw the Network back on there and have people start pumping in personal information and credit card numbers again unless they are pretty sure they are secure.
Bottom line.....they have to be sure or it would be pretty irresponsible of them to put back up the Network. As a company, Sony can't really afford to make another mistake so they are trying to cover all their bases.

Exactly, i know they never said 100% guaranteed restoration, but how can they not now give us an updated time frame? They said from what they knew, they expected to restore service within a week. I understand they said it could be up within a week but seriously, anyone who thought they could rebuild the entire system cope with the investigation, find who did it, test the newly built system, and put it back up by the end of the week is out of their minds. Especially when halfway through the week they found SOE got hacked.
It might be back up before the end of May, but it's a big might.

And if ur so tired of the bitching, I just wouldn't come into this thread until the network is back up, because most likely that's what everyone here will be talking about, duh. Bitching solves nothing 1.) Sony messed up, they know it, we know it, the whole ing world knows it 2.) Hackers are also to blame, you can't have a fight without 2 parties 3.) Discussing the situation is not coming in and saying "OMG Sony Whyz not up YETSZ". That adds nothing to the conversation. 4.) Bitching and complaining will also not make them hurry up. and if you honestly thought that they could move their whole data center, rebuild an entirely new network, run stress, security, and system tests on it and be done with it in a week, while an investigation is going on, 7 million governments, and agencies are up their asses, and mid-way through all of this another branch of their gaming industry gets hacked, you are clueless as to how computers/internet/servers work. Hell it would take months before proper testing could be done and people bitching about them not doing something that normally takes months, in a week is asinine. Everyone has the right to be upset, but to complain constantly helps nothing and no one.

It sucks and all, but I'd rather they take their time and get it put back together properly. If that takes a week, a month, a year, fine. People who can't deal without the online gaming thing seriously need to go outside.
It'd be a lot more bougha if I were paying for the service, but I'm not, so carry on, Sony.

Why doesn't Sony just refund the money to the people they sued or whatever? Doesn't work like that. Whoever did it either A.) Saw an opportune time because Sony was dealing with DDOS' attacks B.) Were mad that Sony remove OtherOS (Linux) from the PS3 and also mad that they took Gehotz to court for releasing how to bypass the PS3 security keys. If it's A then they took the data to sell for money. If it's B Sony giving money back won't help as the lawsuit has already happened and Sony took a stance on the whole homebrew situation. So Right now it's just hopefully Sony catches who did it, and they get their stuff more secure, safer, better, faster, etc. Also it's being reported that some 2,500 names and partial address from a 2001 sweepstakes were posted on a site owned by Sony which was inactive and Sony took down. So who knows what the is going on.
