1. you need a broadband internet connection. 2. go to your local store that sells games and buy a membership (1 month, 3 months,12 months) 3. take it home and follow the prompts from the dashboard 4. enter the code 5. stick in your fave XBL compatible game and play away.

Broadband is like DSL or Cable internet. Wireless is a type of network you can have. If you have wireless internet at your home, you'll need to buy the $100 wireless adapter for the 360 if you want to use it. Otherwise you'll need an ethernet cable, like the one that comes with the Premium, Halo 3, or Elite 360s. If the room that you play 360 in is very far away from the room with your router, you'll either have to use a really long ethernet cable (I got a 100-footer from newegg.com for 23 bucks in 2004) or the wireless adapter.
