Published by: Ubisoft Developed by: Ubisoft Montreal Genre: Action Number of Players: 1 Release Date: November 13, 2007 MSRP: $59.99 GraphicsYou're dropped dead center into the middle-east in Assassin's Creed and Ubisoft does a great job of recreating it. What's most breathtaking about the graphics is when you climb atop the highest buildings and look around at all the surrounding area. The cities are immense and you can see everything there is to see throught the city. The cities are a beautiful, living creature it seems at times with so many moving around and doing their own thing without any sort of slowdown. Not only are the cities amazing looking, but the landscapes are as well. However, this is also where one of the problems arise; pop-up. There were times where I'd be riding the horse to get to my next destination and without warning I would run into some civilians that hadn't appeared on screen but 1 second before hand. This also happened occasionally while in cities as well, but not nearly as frequently. It tends to happen most when Altair is fleeing from guards. SoundThere is some really good voice acting here, most particularly in the people that are your assassination targets. They fit the mix of the game quite well with accents fitting those of the middle-east. Altair, while a decent voice actor, isn't anything too great. He gets the job done, but compared to the other main voices in the game he is subpar. As far as environmental music, there isn't any. For the most part you'll only hear any sort of music during cutscenes. When roaming through cities you'll only hear the sounds of Altair as runs through the streets and the townspeople. And while there may be hundreds upon hundreds of people occupied in the streets the lack much dialog. You'll hear the people say same thing over and over again. It can get really repetative and it's easy to tell that they didn't give the townspeople many phrases. GameplayAltair is the skilled assassin that you take control of throughout the game. You do play as another character in the game, but I won't go into detail about this person as it would spoil some of the story. As Altair you are given the task of having to kill 9 targets, 3 targets for the 3 main areas of the game. However, before you can go about killing your target, like any skilled assassin, you have to begin to understand your target. You'll enter a city and climb up to viewpoints to observe your territory and find potential informers, someone to interogate, or someone to pickpocket for information. You'll have to do this all 9 times before you can go about with the assassination. And that's where the most fun of the game is; the assassinations. Each assassination has a different way that you can go about approaching it, and it's all up to you. You can go in full force and battle the guards to get to your target if you wish or you can go about it strategically and try to kill the target is stealthy as possible. After you kill your target you will be met by an onslaught of guards that will try to take you down in mass numbers. Sword play in this game is a bit dull to begin with, but as the game progresses you will gain more skills and be able to pull off some killer maneuvers. If you don't care for the swordplay you can always escape by rooftop, which is surprisingly as Altair can go just about anywhere. Final ThoughtsWhile there are a few things that can be nit-picked about this game it is very good game. Combat could be fine tweaked to make it more interesting action-wise, but it's still solid. One of the biggest highlights of the game is the story that involves the second character that you play as. And you'll be delivered some of the best ending moments in game with Assassin's Creed. There will without a doubt be a sequel to this game. It's definitely a title that shouldn't be missed if you're a fan of the action genre, otherwise you might just want to look at a rental with most being able to beat it within 10-15 hours. Sound - 6/10 Aside from the great voice acting by a few of the cast there isn't much memorable about anything that you'll hear while playing. Graphics - 8/10 Beautiful graphics, beautiful animations. The only thing keeping it from a higher score are the occasional hiccups. Gameplay - 9/10 Maneuvering Altair as he runs across rooftops is simple. Combat is great fun once you're able to preform with all your skills and weapons. Plus a story that'll make you keep coming back for more the further you get. Overall (not an average)8.8/10

QUICK NOTE: The following review was written by both myself and a friend of mine over at another forum. Published by: 2K Games Developed by: 2K Boston Genre: First-Person Action RPG Number of Players: 1 Release Date: US: August 21, 2007 Europe: August 24, 2007 Australia: August, 24, 2007 MSRP: $59.99 ESRB Content Descriptors: Blood and Gore, Drug Reference, Intense Violence, Sexual Themes, Strong Language Also Available On: PC GRAPHICS RC > The first that anyone notices, exspecially if you played the Demo is that after the plane crashes and you get to see the water. 5 Seconds into the game and your mouth is already open at the shear beauty of the Water effects, and that is only a taste of the gorgeous graphics of the game. This might be the best looking game on the 360 giving Gears of War and Oblivion a run for their money.RC > Then moving on once you enter the creepy atmosphere that is "Rapture" The fictional environment that Bioshock takes place in. You then get these "Plasmids" which give you special abilities like Electricity, Fire, telekinesis and much more. The effects on those are amazing. It's seriously just a straight out beautiful game with a creep atmosphere and great effects.Merobb > Wether people like to admit it or not graphic CAN, at times, make or break a game. And no matter who you are the first thing you notice in any game is how it looks. And to tell you the truth words can't do justice to the beauty of BioShock. Merobb > As R.C. mentioned, within five minutes of starting the game you will be astonished to how amazing the the water is. The reflection of the flames off the water. The towering building just ahead of you shining in the moonlight. It's not as "beefed up" as Gears, but it very much so artistically superior to it. SOUND RC > The orchestial score is amazing, you hear everyone talking even if you cant see them, The Voice acting in this game is by far one of the best that I have ever heard.. period. If I was to rate the Sound category I'd give it a 10. Cause it's just amazing and with the VO, they dont repeat themselves.. They did a great job with the Sound and it shows. This game cant be touched and probably wont in the sound department.Merobb > The sound here will make your skin crawl because it's so eerily good. You hear every drip of water. Every whisper. Every footstep. Even the silence. And it will scare the living piss out of you. The voice acting is top notch as expected. The atmospheric 40's-50's music that you'll hear as so well placed almost in a comical irony sort of way. Definately one of the best features of the game. PRESENTATION RC > A Top notch story is what fuelds you to keep playing this game. I love it when a videogame tells and unbelievable story that you get hooked and you want to keep playing. The upgradable weapons and powers give the game an RPG Feel, but it doesnt focus intirely on it so it's good for non RPG gamers like me. RC > The game takes place over 40 years ago, and everything in the game makes you think that its that old, hell even The little videos that play when you get something new feel like an old cheesy cartoon. THe music and everything are throw back. But anyways, they did a great job with the powers and also once again the atmosphere of the game. Hell when you first go into the bathosphere at the beginning of the game I had a hard time looking out of the window thinking something was going to scare the crap out of me.Merobb > Without the way this game is presented I would say that it would be pretty damn close to 90% of the other shooters out there. I cannot state it enough that the greatest things about this game are the story and the atmosphere. Of course if you care anything about story you're going to be thoroughly intrigued as to why this place is here in the middle of the ocean. Who you are. And why you are you there...is it mere coincidence? Merobb > Now onto the atmosphere. I have never really jumped or been scared by many games and the few times that I have it's usually random things that will jump out at you. What's different about this game is that it's not just the jump out moments that scare you. It's the fact that it contains this eerie atmosphere and maintains it through the whole game that makes the moments that much more piss-your-pants scary. It's all because every aspect of the game (sound, graphics, story, atmosphere) work together and support each other and makes the way this game is presented so strong. GAMEPLAY RC > The gameplay is some of the best you'll ever play, from the easy controls to the easily navigated halls of Rapture, the gameplay will keep you moving along at a fast pace and never let go for atleast 20 or so hours. Strategizing on which powers to use, which weapons you want to upgrade first. Whether or not if you want to Harvest the Little Sisters. (I say dont cause if you dont then you get 100pts for the achievement).RC > I forgot to mention anything about the A.I., who are sickinly smart. You set them on fire they'll attempt to put themselves out. You injure them and then they go the health station that you use. Thye will unload gun shots on you and you have to be quick enough to beat with guns or beat them with the surrounding, electricute them if they are standing in water, lighting them on fire if they are standing in flamable liquids. Hacking is also a huge part of the game, you get this lovely little mini game and you only have a few seconds to figure it out. The gameplay is simply amazing.Merobb > Everything here is very easy and accessable for anyone to play. The simplistic nature of the control scheme is very welcoming for a game where you would expect complexity. Switching between plasmids and guns is done in the same fashion of the Rachet & Clank games which is great. Merobb > Of course I can't go without telling how magnificently this is all executed in action. Killing splicers in this game is so satisfying because there are so many ways you can go about it. Don't want to kill them yourself? Take control of a Big Daddy and let them take care of it. Or throw a plasmid at them that makes the turrets blow them into fine little pieces. Or do it yourself and freeze them with a plasmid and shatter them to pieces with your wrench. Or hell, nothing is more satisfying than a good ole' blast to the head with your shotgun. Merobb > The RPG elements of BioShock are a great addition to the game. Almost everything about you is upgradable as well. You can upgade your guns, plasmids, hacking skills, health, and eve. Most of which you will to purchase with the use of Adam, that is only obtainable by defeating the Big Daddys then getting to the Little Sisters. It's no easy task but you will have a helluva time doing it. OVERALL RC > This is the best 360 game of the year so far, to me atleast. There's nothing wrong with this game. People might say that because there is no Multiplayer that the game has no lasting value. You dont need Multilplayer for a game to be a great game, Bioshock proves that. Merobb I know for a fact has beaten the game and has starting going through it again. I am going to go and play it as soon as I am done here cause I have yet to beat the game.Merobb > There is so much more I could go on about, things I didn't even touch. The enemy AI which RC touched on. The camara you use to research. The craziest characters that you come across with their own personalities. The decision of harvesting or saving the Little Sisters. There are so many tiny things that may seem insignificant when alone, but put together with all the other things that make Bioshock great it becomes so appearent how much those little things really make Bioshock the work of art that it is. As RC said this is the best 360 game of the year thus far. It's a game of the year contender in my book, and I'd go as far as to say that it is my favorite game for the 360. RC's Score: 9.7/10
merobb's Score: 9.8/10

Published by: Nintendo Developed by: Nintendo EAD Tokyo Genre: Platformer Number of Players: 1-2 Release Date: November 12, 2007 MSRP: $49.99 GraphicsAs most everyone knows, the Wii isn't the console that you go to if you're looking for a graphical powerhouse. Super Mario Galaxy can't compare to the best looking games on Xbox 360 or PS3, but it certainly does hold it's own. It's by far the best looking Wii game released to date and it's nice to see a game on Wii running at 480p allowing it to play much more smoothly. No one will be astonished by Galaxy's raw power used in graphics. The thing that will draw your attention is how colorful this game is and that's what makes it amazing looking. You don't often see games using such vivid colors while still pushing the graphical limits, but Mario Galaxy pulls it off tremendously. SoundAnyone that has followed the Mario games throughout the years will be highly pleased with much of the music in Galaxy. It sounds so good to hear some of the most classic Mario tunes be redone for Galaxy through orchestra. You'll run into many melodies that you may have for gotten from years ago and when you hear them playing in the background you won't be able to stop from smiling a little. While the overall sound is something that shines about Galaxy, the same can't be said about the voice acting. That's due in part to there being hardly any voice acting whatsoever, even in cutscenes. You'll get the occasional grunts from Bowser and "Oh no"'s from Peach, but nothing that'll win any awards for the game. GameplayThe core gameplay of any Mario game is here, but it's just slightly tweaked to suit the Wii and it suits it well. While exploring worlds for stars you will run around defeating your enemies with your new spin attack as you no longer punch. You'll be able to do this spin attack with just a tiny shake of the Wii remote. But this isn't Mario's only mode of attacking, as he has many different costumes that he is able to use throughout the game including a bee costume, a ghost costume, and many others that I won't spoil for you. In Galaxy you'll find a lot of similarities with Super Mario 64 which is not at all a bad thing. As in the past two console Mario games you will have a total of 120 stars that you can collect. However in this game, as the title implies, you will explore multiple galaxies in search of these stars. And with more stars you gradually open up even more galaxies for you to explore. The game took me a little over 15 hours to beat the main quest, but going back for all 120 stars will extend that play well into 20 hours. Final ThoughtsMario's first time out on the Wii is a great success in many ways. It integrates the Wii controls flawlessly. It's easily the best looking Mario that we've ever seen. And after what many considered a disappointment in Super Mario Sunshine will see Mario return to his roots in this game in something that really feels like it adds something to the Mario franchise much like what Mario 64 did. It's fresh and a great experience that any Wii owner should not ignore. Sound - 9/10 Mario fans will be hit with nostalgia of the finest kind here. Graphics - 8/10 The most crisp looking graphics on the Wii to date. Cutscenes look terrific as well. Gameplay - 10/10 It doesn't get much better than good old fashion Mario gameplay. Everything the Wii adds just makes it that much better. Overall (not an average)9.3/10

Published by: Microsoft Developed by: BioWare Genre: RPG Number of Players: 1 Release Date: November 20, 2007 MSRP: $59.99 GraphicsBeautiful. The galaxies of Mass Effect are large and beautiful, both from a technical and artistic standpoint. The amount of detail that is put into the characters is down-right astounding. During conversations in game, you may spend the time looking at the immense detail that was put into the character facial expressions. It's especially noticiable in the different alien species that you will encounter throughout the game. The enviornments are quite beautiful and imaginitive as is to be expected from the creators of Knights of the Old Republic. Although there are drawbacks to such beauty. During missions in the game where you'll be driving in the rover across barren planets you'll notice that the landscapes are less than amazing compared to the cities in the game. One more graphical issue that seems happen more frequently once you get further into the game is that it'll take a few seconds longer to load the textures of an area. It's not a huge issue, but it's quite noticable SoundPlaying Mass Effect will feel very much like watching a movie, as in almost everything meeting high production movie quality standards. The voice-acting is no exception and is one of the finest points of the game. You're not forced into reading pretty much any of the dialog as all of it is done by top-notch voice-acting that emmerses you into the world of Mass Effect. If you were a fan of the Knights of the Old Republic games then I'm sure you may take note and recognize quite a few of the voices. GameplayAs with a lot of the other aspects of Mass Effect, you're going to notice many subtle things that are reminiscent of the Knights of the Old Republic series. Most predominantly will be the method of leveling your characters, which is a VERY good thing if you're familiar with the series. At the beginning of the game you'll get to customize Shephard (your lead character) and assign him to one of many assorted classes ranging from a soldier to a biotec engineer. Whatever it is that you choose will effect how your character will develope as in what skills he can or can't use, along with what weapons he'll be proficient at using. All of this is a huge plus for the game is can make it more difficult for the gamer and force them to strategize in battle. Yes, difficulty is a good thing. When in battle you may not think that you're even playing an RPG anymore. The core gameplay mechanics are those of an RPG, but when in battle you'll be playing a shooter, a hybrid shooter of sorts. And it all works great for the game. You'll have two other squad members with you in battle at most times in which you'll be able to control a lot of what they do. By holding one of the bumper buttons you will pause the action on screen and bring up a little menu where you can quickly and easily change the weapons of you and/or your teammates. With the other bumper button you'll be able to command your teammates to use their biotec abilities. Your squad members aren't the brightest at what they do many atimes, but they get the job done. Final ThoughtsMass Effect is a one of a kind game that you don't come across all too often. The whole game is solid top to bottom. The story telling in the game is some of the best there is at the moment. Every aspect of the game coincides with each other to make an overall movie feel in this game. Mass Effect is a bit shorter than BioWare's past projects if I do remember correctly. The main storyline will be able to completed within 20 hours, it took me about 17 hours. However, there are multiple galaxies that you're not even forced to explore in the main storyline which will mark your hours up much closer to the 30 hour mark. Not to mention if you're looking for achievements you're going to have to play this game over at least 2 times. Even without achievements, you shouldn't need any incentive to play through this great game again. Sound - 10/10 Top of the line voice-acting along with an epic orchestrated score in the game. Graphics - 9/10 Easily one of the best looking games on the platform. Character models are possibly the best of any game to date. Gameplay - 9/10 Very solid shooter mechanics implemented into an RPG. Great character customization and building. Overall (not an average)9.5/10 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Yes, you did read correctly, I will be reviewing five games and the fifth one will be posted sometime this week. With any luck I will have Rock Band reviewed within the next two days. I hope everyone enjoys reading these reviews I wrote up and possibly help you out in some of your post-Christmas purchases.
