I'm going to get a blu ray player at the end of the month. What is the difference with the one that's built into the PS3 vs. stand alone Blu Ray players? Is the quality the same? I would think that the PS3 is probably not going to be AS GOOD since it focuses on games as well but......what are y'alls thoughts?

Nope, it's more than fine. Even those in the industry say it's probably the one of the best players on the market.

so it stacks up better than the average player at Best Buy that runs the same price? Guess that means I'll be able to enjoy the games on PS3 if they ever come out with anything good! lol

BUY AND HDMI CABLE, do NOT try to use component cables, HDMI is better all around. Just thought I'd throw that in. Especially if you plan on upconverting you standard DVDs to 1080p.

HDMI does not need to be bought at the stores, they're usually marked up by $100's.
You can find them cheaper other places... And it makes the world of difference. I like the true high-definition picture it produces.

Its an excellent Blu Ray player. I have the PS3 mainly for it and I love it.

The PS3 IS the best Blu-Ray player out there. It loads the discs up fast as hell compared to the regular players.
