So, Guitar Hero comes and stomps away at the world with it's fun factor and intense set-list never really seen before in games.
Neversoft then takes over Guitar Hero, completely messing it up and Rock Band comes out and just smashes any music game before it..but where were music games before this? Did you play any of the ridiculous music games before these mammoth games came out, or did you stick to the underground games to fit your music needs?
If you're thinking music games of the past, your obviously thinking
PaRappa the Rapper. When this was on the Playstation underground disc back in the old days when you felt special to just have a collection of demos. This little demo featured the first Onion Karate level and playing it was ridiculous but the songs were catchy and you just loved playing through it -*no matter how unfair the timing was on most levels*-
This game is one of many inside jokes I have with my friends, our favorite level being the one posted with you trying to go to the bathroom.
After it was Unjammer Lammy Which sadly, I never got the chance to play, but it looked fun and the songs were just as ridiculous.
later years
Music video games were always very rare, it wasn't until 01 (for me) until they started getting played a ton. Taking a look back to those days were strange with music, as there were games JUST like guitar hero but they weren't popular at all and made by the same exact company known as Harmonix. I'm sure you guys know what game I am talking about (skipping over Dance Dance Revolution, as I never cared about those games at all)
Frequency/Amplitude
These games were fun, exact same as guitar hero pretty much, just without the guitar. Instead of just playing one instrument, you pretty much contolled every element of a song and tried to keep pace with it. You did vocals/drums/guitar/bass all by pressing the D-pad in a certain direction. Not only was that fun, but you also got to remix popular songs to your own liking and have other people try to do your remixes of your song. TONS of fun.
I don't have time to finish this, and I don't really know what the discussion can be..but when I do have time later tonight- When I am highly bored, I'll go on about Guitaroo man, and various other awesome music games.
