I just can't seem to get into the Wishmaster series. By bits own rights, its an entertaining film, but I think it suffered due to being released after Friday The 13th, A Nightmare On Elm Street and Halloween blew our minds. I think Wishmaster is just lacklustre in comparison. However, like I said, in its own right it is a great film, the release time was just wrong. Wishmaster doesn't really have any relation to any of those films. The release time was wrong? Dude it was 1997. I don't think Wishmaster has "suffered" at all. It wasn't meant to be a big horror hit. It was just a fun film. Actually, for 1997 it was a pretty big horror hit. It made $6 million in its first weekend with a $5 million budget. It went on to triple its budget in theaters, and probably even more on video. I think the Wishmaster series is great because it has its own mythos, its own original killer, lots and lots of gory deaths, and the whole atmosphere is dead on. Still, watch Wishmaster 2 for my favorite entry in the series.

Am I the only one who isn't a big fan of The Evil Dead..? To be honest, I really didn't enjoy it at all. I haven't seen any sequels however. Probably. I like all 3 Evil Dead films, although I've seen Army of Darkness probably twice, and the first two at least 25 times each. AOD is just such a different turn from the first two I couldn't really get into it. But the first Evil Dead is in my top 12 favorite films of all time.

Yeah, I guess you're right, but I just think that it didnt have what it takes to be a big hit in the slasher genre after Halloween, Friday The 13th, and ANOES.

So who saw Hostel? I'm probably going tonight, hopefully I just saw Hostel this afternoon, and it was a very well done movie. I posted a review in the Hostel thread..top notch violence, it does get awhile to get the movie going, but overall a great film and i dont see why mostly everyone hated it or were dissapointed in Hostel..my rating is 9/10. Anyways, for the post about The Hills Have Eyes. Ive said this many times in this thread but im hyped for the remake, i saw a trailer for it before Hostel and it looks awesome.

I started reading this today since I'm sick and haven't been able to leave my place and I have to say, it's absolutely an awesome book so far. It really takes Freddy to a different level but it definitely has a similar feel to the Nightmare film. Worth checking out. I will definitely be checking out other books in this series upon completing this one.

^^ Yeah there are 3 Nightmare books, 2 Friday The 13th, and 4 Jason X books so far, with more coming out this month. I have read all but 1 Jason X book, and I am starting it tonight, and I have to say, I haven't read a bad one yet. All of them are VERY good reads.

Actually there are two more Nightmare Books on the way. Those being "Protege" (Feb) and "Dream Dealers" (July). The synopsis of "Protege" is similar to that of Nightmare 5 (Dream Child) but it sounds a little more well thought out. Dream Dealers also sounds good as it involves a box that allows one to watch peoples dreams. There are 3 Friday books already out. Those being "Church of the Divine Psychopath", "Hell Lake", and "Hate-Kill-Repeat". There is a fourth one coming out called "Carnival of Maniacs" (July I think). It involves the return from the grave of Jasons mother. It sounds interesting to say the least. The Friday books are decent but don't really capture the feel like the old Friday the 13th novel series from a few years back. Even though the killers in the books weren't Jason, the writer really captured the feel. I miss that series. I wish it had went past 4 books. I had all 4 but lost the one entitled "Road Trip". Have you read any of the Final Destination books?

Have you read any of the Final Destination books? My roommate bought a Nightmare book and a Friday book. So far I read the Friday the 13th book 'Church of the Divine Psychopath'. I think that would make a great movie, good way to restart the series for the new generation but still keeping with the classic Friday the 13th stuff. Plus, it had shitloads of gore.

I never read any of the books..but i bet they are good.
Speaking of Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday The 13th heres the bottom-line question. What would you rather have done with the series of films-
Choice A: Have another Freddy vs. Jason film OR Choice B: Just have a seperate film like a sequel or prequel of Nightmare on Elm Street and another film like sequel or prequel of Friday The 13th.

I haven't seen any sequels however. ive only seen army of darkness, and i thought it sucked horribly just bc they tried for too many laughs at points in the movie where they werent wanted at all. but it seems that i will have to see the first 2 to get the feel for the movies.

Well I was just reading the Hostel thread on here and a couple things pissed me off.
First off, "SEH", you had this to say:
"Just got back form it. It was okay, of course, the plot was extremely thin, but the gore is what brought people in. In the gore department, I honestly think this movie failed. I mean, nothing was really "brutal". Not once did I flinch or have to turn away. I was expecting a lot more gore. Not to mention, the ending was incredibly weak, it just kinda left you sitting there going "thats it, its over?" I wouldnt really recommend this movie."
Now i've heard a couple people mention how Hostel has no plot which just makes no sense to me. It truly has more of a plot than most horror movies, even most great horror movies out there. Hostel, I felt, was not just gore for gore sake. It was a good story as well. Nothing was brutal? Did you have your eyes closed?
"Vandalism": "saw it last night and it was awful. I am a huge fan of the horror genre but Hostel was just horrid. It had no plot whatsoever and was basically a rip off of every other horror film ever made. The only good thing was when they showed the trailers before the movie they previewed a WWE produced movie coming up starring Kane as the killer. "
Huge fan of the horror genre? Are you sure about that? Again, no plot?, please elaborate because I just dont understand that claim. Not that I even need to mention the stupidity of this next comment, but youre a big horror fan and you hated Hostel and yet thought See No Evil looked good? Better think about that for a second.
I know everyones allowed to have different opinions on the movies they like and dont like, but myself along with everyone I went with, who are true horror fans, agreed that any horror fan simply would like this movie. Nudity, violence, what does it not have? I'd really like to hear what you two or anyone who didnt like the movie has to say about it past just saying it sucked or had no plot. Elaborate.
