Well I was just reading the Hostel thread on here and a couple things pissed me off. First off, "SEH", you had this to say: "Just got back form it. It was okay, of course, the plot was extremely thin, but the gore is what brought people in. In the gore department, I honestly think this movie failed. I mean, nothing was really "brutal". Not once did I flinch or have to turn away. I was expecting a lot more gore. Not to mention, the ending was incredibly weak, it just kinda left you sitting there going "thats it, its over?" I wouldnt really recommend this movie." Now i've heard a couple people mention how Hostel has no plot which just makes no sense to me. It truly has more of a plot than most horror movies, even most great horror movies out there. Hostel, I felt, was not just gore for gore sake. It was a good story as well. Nothing was brutal? Did you have your eyes closed? "Vandalism": "saw it last night and it was awful. I am a huge fan of the horror genre but Hostel was just horrid. It had no plot whatsoever and was basically a rip off of every other horror film ever made. The only good thing was when they showed the trailers before the movie they previewed a WWE produced movie coming up starring Kane as the killer. " Huge fan of the horror genre? Are you sure about that? Again, no plot?, please elaborate because that makes no sense to me. Not that I even need to mention the stupidity of this next comment, but youre a big horror fan and you hated Hostel and yet thought See No Evil looked good? Better think about that for a second. I know everyones allowed to have different opinions on the movies they like and dont like, but myself along with everyone I went with, who are true horror fans, agreed that any horror fan simply would like this movie. Nudity, violence, what does it not have? I'd really like to hear what you two or anyone who didnt like the movie has to say about it past just saying it sucked or had no plot. Elaborate. The problems I had with the movie were mostly pacing problems. I didn't like any of the characters, the first half of the film felt like some random teen movie, and the pace was so slow and boring that the 90 minutes or so felt like two hours. The torture stuff was decent but just wasn't elaborated upon enough. It was probablly my biggest theatre dissapointment in years. Cabin Fever is one of my horror flicks, but Hostel just felt too random to me. The movie wasn't very bleak, and it was tremendously tame. I'm not saying he should have shown us more, I'm just saying he could have done more with suspense and tension, which the film certainly seemed to lack. I like Cabin Fever so much better on so many different levels. There's just more to it then Hostel.

Whoa...I just saw Hostel tonight. Might be my new favorite horror movie. This is how you do a true horror movie and i'd go as far as to say anyone who doesnt like it, just simply doesnt know horror. in' incredible It wasn't really horror to me...I just would lump it into action..i don't know why but it just didn't feel like a horror film.

I found the characters to be pretty entertaining and humorous. Particularly Paxton and Oli, who was very funny. I think the pace was just fine, if they had gotten into the gore and blood too early, it mightve been overkill. The long wait for it was good, you knew it was coming but weren't drowned in it right off the bat. Tremendously tame eh? Hm, interesting. I've seen some of the most over the top violent movies out there and I cringed several times during Hostel. I do agree though, Cabin Fever is a great movie

Sorry dude I'm saving my movie theater gift card for Final Destination 3 lol.
By the way Puropower, I thought Army of Darkness was hilarious. How can you not laugh at an army of skeletons saying the most random things ever.
How about the one crawling on the ground to get Ash? "I'll cut yer gizzard out arrr"
IT WAS HILARIOUS

"I'll cut yer gizzard out arrr" IT WAS HILARIOUS I wish they would have went with the original idea for "cowardly Ash" in that movie. Raimi talks on the commentary about how the original idea was to have Ash be such a coward that at one point when the people were looking for him, they'd find him hiding in a closet or something from the skeletons.

The trailer for Hills Have Eyes played at Hostel. That's gonna be the one to watch out for

I'm a big fan of the original, but the stupid "booby trap" stuff and the abrupt ending brought it down a few notches for me. I think Aja will keep this one solid throughout.

Ya I really wasn't too impressed by the original. Definetly a movie that needed a remake

AOD is hilarious, it's more a 3 Stooges homage than anything, but I enjoy the humor of Evil Dead 2 better.

After an opening weekend proving the multiplex is anything but a hostile environment, Screen Gems and Lionsgate are already planning a sequel to Hostel, with writer-director Eli Roth in talks to return and steer the second installment, which is intended to be released next year, according to Variety.
I say bring it on. I'm not one for sequels, but as long as Roth is directing, we'll be in good hands.

Thats awesome about the sequel to Hostel ;D Hostel was a great movie.
Here is some horror news for the day-
'Night of the Living Dead 3D' Gets Theatrical Date
We've been informed that Night of the Living Dead 3D will open in limited theatrical release on March 17 (moved from January 27) and the film will then continue to roll out across the country in select markets. The move was necessary to accommodate the 3D post production and the addition of several CG visual effects shots. "Night of the Living Dead 3D" stars Sid Haig ("House of 1000 Corpses"), Brianna Brown (HBO's "Entourage"), Greg Travis (Tobe Hooper's "Mortuary") and newcomer Joshua DesRoches. The film is a Lux Digital Pictures and Midnight Movies presentation and is a production from director Jeff Broadstreet's new genre company, The HorrorWorks. In the original a group of people hide from bloodthirsty zombies in a farmhouse.
and i found a list for "most" of the horror remakes coming out in the near future:
Coming In 2006: - The Hills Have Eyes - When A Stranger Calls - Night of the Living Dead 3-D - Pulse - The Omen
In Production or On The Way: - Suspiria - Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things - Deathdream - Black Christmas - Scanners - The Fly - Alice, Sweet Alice - The Crazies - Creepshow - Day of the Dead - The Bad Seed - The Birds - The Wicker Man - Near Dark - Pet Sematary - It - The Hitcher - Wait Until Dark - The Blob - The Changeling - The Last House On The Left - The Creature From The Black Lagoon - The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari - Fiend Without A Face - Race With The Devil - Rosemary's Baby - The Evil Dead - The Eye - The Eye II (separate production from the above) - Halloween (eventually) - Mario Bava films (not sure which ones)
I hope they wont remake Halloween..i see Friday The 13th being remade..but i hope not Halloween..Halloween is one of the most greatest horror films ever made, IMO.

I agree. Halloween does not need a remake. I can see all of the rest on that list working. Pet Semetary could be great if remade. I like the original quite a bit but it left more to be desired once I finally read the book. Still not bad. Little Miko Hughes was great at Gage. I think Alice Sweet Alice is a great film. Could be a great remake if pulled off correctly. But they did something in the original that they can't do now that really made the movie special. Kill an 11 year old Brooke Shields. I totally despise Suspiria. I think it's seriously the most overrated horror film of all time. But then again I haven't found much by Argento that I like. But I do like Mario Bava films. They are often compared but I don't see it. Lucio Fulci will always be my favorite foreign horror director though. On a side note. I saw the TV spot for When a Stranger Calls last night. Looks pretty good. But then again the commercial concentrated on the first few minutes of the film. Hopefully there is more to it then that this time.

The Suspiria remake is going to blow on so many levels. That movie should never be touched, just because there is no way they are going to recreate the beautiful imagery that Argento captured.

The Pet Sematary remake better have Zelda in it.
The trailer for When a Stranger Calls really doesn't look too good to me. I think it's gonna be a big letdown.

Tonight I watched "The Devils Backbone". Don't really feel like going into a synopsis and stuff. I had often heard people singing it's praises. But I for one was not impressed in the least. It had nothing I had never seen before. Everything was pretty much familar from the camera work to the plot. The setting was a little different but that's the only difference. It was just an overall boring ass movie. Sometimes I think people tend to get caught up in the fact that a movie is foreign and they feel like they HAVE to like it. This movie really sucked goat.

You're definetly right about the foreign thing...everyone seems to love all classics and all foreign acclaimed movies just because they feel thats what you have to do...that's always bothered me. Devil's Backbone in particular, I wasn't too impressed with, but it was a decent movie
