I seen it yesterday, I thought the ending they went with was much better.

I actually prefer the original ending more. So I assume this is the Alternate Version that's on the DVD due out in a few weeks? I am very disappointed. I wanted everyone to die

Now I'm incredibly disappointed, the REAL ending is Robert being more or less crucified. Neither ending is satisfying to me, quite frankly. They should have went with the book's ending, it was so heavy and hopeless, the way much of the movie felt.

I want to see that badly now.

Wait, there is an additional ending? I assumed this ending here was the only one included on the DVD.
I suppose I shouldn't have called it a crucifixition, but I've thought of it as that ever since hearing it before reading the book.
It's really a public execution. Neville is put into a prison and takes a pill so that he feels no pain, the book ends as they bring him out to be executed. It just makes the vampires seem smart, which I liked.
I guess it's really a totally different story, though.

I found it on youtube because I don't think it works on that site anymore. I like both endings, but I think the original is better.
but I don't see how this alternate ending is controversial?

Well hopefully thats the ending, because I didn't find this one to be very "controversial". I think the book ending would be really cool on film, though, despite it being a really different story. Check out the book if you get a chance, it's like reading something entirely different, to be honest.

ok, this new ending suffers from the same horrendous cop-out final 60 seconds that the original did, but MY GOD the alternate ending makes soooooooooooooo much more sense in the context of the film. I'm truly surprised they didn't keep it in there. When I left the theater after watching it my main gripe was that the whole reason they were being chased was because the head zombie's chick got kidnapped! I didn't understand how they can fail to deliver a payoff to what is essentially the plot. Stupid Hollywood.
Actually, stupid test audiences. sidenote, but still relative: I went to the very 1st screening of A Scanner Darkly about 8 months before the movie was released. I found it to be a very fleshed out and interesting movie with lots to think about. From overhearing people as we were filling out the cards and walking out of the theater I heard nothing but complaints. Basically nobody "got it". Final product was depressingly different

I really liked that ending. It put chills down my spine for a moment. BUT, I prefer the original ending.

Ok, I wanted to see this "controversial ending" like everyone else. I went to wikipedia, and it says THIS is the controversial ending, not the "crucifixion" one.
Ill still pick it up, but a dissapointment none the less.
This isn't at all controversial though.

I still think the Vincent Price version is the best telling of that story.
The movie would have been a lot better without the crapty cgi.

Yeah, the director just had to be a bitch and ditch prostetics. I love the book and actually come close to hating the movie. The book ending would've been great to see. My brother and my friends love the movie, the ending ruined it for me. This ending is a bigger bitch of an ending than the theatrical one. If this one was in theaters I would've thrown crap at the screen. I never think horror movies should have a fairytale ending.
