So what do you guys think. If Cobain didnt die woulld he be as popular as he is now. Would he be know as one of the greatest artists of all time. The same goes for BIG and Pac. Whould they be know as the greates rappers who evere lived if they didnt go out in such a controvesrial fashion.?

I await outrage to my above statement.

Probably not, the media tends to over hype sensationalizing artists who die. Janis Joplin anyone.

I don't think they would be as well liked whatsoever. I remember Nirvana just being one of those bands that people just casually liked. But as soon as Cobain was dead everyone went ape crap over them and they were the biggest thing ever.

I cant speak for how people reacted when Corbin died, as I was only like ten or so. Being older & hearing his stuff now, it makes me want more.

Cobain wouldn't have adapted or changed. At least I don't think so. There was no where for someone like him to go. He didn't have much of a vocal range.

What do you call Kurt Cobain at a golf course? Hole in one.

No. To even fathom that he would have any popularity if he was still around is just pointless. He was popular when he died, therefore, he stays at that level. He wasn't innovative, or a god of anything. He just died. That'd be like the gay from BFMV killing himself tomorrow. He'd go down as the greatest thing of all time.

I know when he died I was depressed but I grew up listening to there music as well as many other bands from that time, I think if he didnt die he would have had an even bigger influence on music

My uncle had tickets to a Nirvana show but it was cancelled because Kurt killed himself. Talk about buzzkill.

Kurt Cobain is a one hit wonder. I await outrage to my above statement. Well, I don't really like Nirvana; but that's just flat-out not true... Nirvana had a bunch of extremely popular songs.

I don't think Cobain was particularly talented.

Cobain was a good songwriter, a terrible vocalist with abysmal range, and an average guitarist at best...
I'll give him credit, he penned some really good lyrics, but the guy completely sucked as a singer. The best example is MTV unplugged when he sounded like a dying cat getting raped by an elephant, especially when trying to sing those Meat Puppet songs.
Its the mystique of "what could have been" with these guys. Yes, they're talented... even Biggie and Tupac... and I despise rap. I actually find Pac to be a pretty tolerable rapper by the genre's standards... but who knows what would have been. Most musicians kinda fade into oblivian at some point.
Look at Led Zeppelin... what have the individual members contributed in recent years? Nothing. Bon Jovi... yes, same lineup, still going as a band, still selling albums, but they've gone in a totally different direction because Jon can't sing like he once could. Guns N' Roses... in particular Axl Rose... Slash will put his name on the Slash brand heh if you paid him enough, and Axl can't muster the ability to seemingly write more than 8 songs in 14 years. Jay Z... retired, because no one wants to hear some old fart rap.
With rappers, I think they kinda just would have faded away... with Cobain, I don't know what would have happened to him had he not died. Probably would have made another decent album, and faded away like most aging rockers. As much as I like him, a 40+ year old Axl Rose has been a pretty sad sight... a 50 year old David Lee Roth, an even sadder sight...
Musicians peak in their 20's and 30's(for the most part)... and I think thats why a guy like Axl Rose has struggled to release a record... he is finding it hard to realize what is relevant in music. And what is relevant is always changing.
Just my two cents in a pretty rambling, incoherent manner.

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen you make a post that didn't slam Cobain. I guess the idea of Unplugged in New York was just lost on you, but his voice is SUPPOSED to sound like that. It's stark and cold, and Kurt's voice goes along with that. Really? Because 2Pac has dropped six posthumous albums, along with the five studio releases that he put out when he was alive. Guns N' Roses has only released five albums (this is, of course, including "The Spaghetti Incident?"), and they've been around how long? Jay Z... retired, because no one wants to hear some old fart rap. Wow, you're really not up on things, are you? Musicians peak in their 20's and 30's(for the most part)... and I think thats why a guy like Axl Rose has struggled to release a record... he is finding it hard to realize what is relevant in music. And what is relevant is always changing. Or maybe it's because the guy is just mentally insane? Just a thought. I get what you're trying to say, and you're right - generally, it's tough for musicians to consistently put out quality material, and thus we have many sub-par releases from aging rockers. But at the end of the day, wouldn't you take that over fourteen years of Axl Rose jerking fans around with "tentative release dates" and such? I mean, is Chinese Democracy ever going to come out?

I can't argue with people saying that Cobain was a terrible singer, but at the same time it's hard to ignore the distinctiveness of his voice. There are plenty of great singers in terms of pitch, rhythm, and phrasing that have dull, uninteresting vocal timbres. Cobain's voice was unique and matched the music he wrote absolutely perfectly.

Meh, I found most Grudge music to suck. That goes for Soundgarden, Alice in Chain, Nirvana, whoever else is on that list. It's alright once in awhile, but there are tons better than those bands when it comes to rock.

It's sickening how Nirvana's stuff didn't even get that popular until after his death.
