How does the whole process of salary work out when being a movie critic?

movie critics are mostly freelance workers, you'll get paid per job or per contract which will be a set amount of time.

unless working for a major news paper and honestly, that's where are the glamor is. Most staffs only account for the local news, big newspapers subscribe to wire services which provides them with generic world stories. And when it comes to food, life, entertainment they hire freelance writers, it gives their paper it's own personality.

I did a review for The Neverending Story III when I was 9 for the newspaper, got paid 20 bucks and free admission/popcorn. Ruled, even though my review was like "it was good i liked it good movie," sort of like my reviews today.

I have done several movie reviews for my local paper. Each time I get around $50. If I was a full time worker for them plus other publications then they do it based upon contract and how many other publications honour your thoughts and opinions. The more papers accept you, the more you'll get paid. Of course a degree in journalism and probably some exerience either on stage or film helps. I just worked in a movie theatre and happen to have taken one film class at my local college.
