..because someone has to get stuck with the crappy powers. Let's face it, not every guy gets the cool threads like Batman, the cool claws of adamantium, or the incredible origin of Peter Parker. Some guys can just inflate themselves...and that's just sad. So to all those lame characters, herewith lies yet another insult to the thing called your life. Lets all up a fellow's christmas, shall we? In this inaugural post, let us bestow this highest lowest honor to one Robert Baldwin, a.k.a Speedball: ANd how did Mr. Baldwin (already an insult) get his "powers"? Well, he was a assitant at some lab, got curious one night and snuck into a testing area (with a cat), and got blasted by experimental extradimensional energies. Oh, so did the cat. And what magical abilities did he gain? His body developed a permanent kinetic energy field around him, repelling everything and everyone who touched it. It also made him bounce all over. In essence, he was what happened if you mixed Rouge and a high bounce ball. So his power is nothing you wouldnt find in any ADD-afflicted 11 year old? How can this idiot stop crime? By bouncing on you? I mean, yeah, you get the bulletproof thing, which is a nice plus, but when your criminal stopping ability is on the same leverl as a jock-hurled dodgeball, is it really that super? The costume itself isnt hideous, but the whole magna-doodles on the yellow never made sense. To be fair, he was part of a mostly lame teen superteam in the 90s, and that really sticks to a guy not matter what you do later. But Mr. Speedball was suck before that and he should have rethought that. You think DC would let Marvel borrow an OMAC or two to help trim a few of these guys? No word on whatever happened to the bouncing cat. Which is sad, because a bouncing cat is a HELL of a lot more interesting. Congrats, Speedball. You officially suck. Now go outside and play.

Have you actually read the New Warriors? Hell of a good comic that was, in my opinion, before its time. Night Thrasher was an interesting character and they really made all these "reject" characters interesting with great writing and storytelling and is far from lame. In fact, the New Warriors have been brought back many times with a lot of different members (strangely enough Speedball is one of the few characters to be in every New Warriors team). I think that the New Warriors brought Speedball back to an audience that never would have heard about him and helped the character greatly.
I actually own the Speedball comic series because I have grabbed up all the individual comics of members of the New Warriors and, sadly, I never got around to reading them so I do not know how good they are.
Speedball was actually considered the heart of the team by many people. His youth and inexperience was exactly what the New Warriors was about. I know Speedball was a completely goofy character but I don't think that he "sucks" as much as you think he does. If you haven't read the New Warriors, go pick up some of the early ones. Maybe issues 1-25, they wouldn't cost you that much money and they would most likely reverse your opinion of the character.

Speedball doesn't ever get the credit he's due. I love the guy. So he has weird powers. Big deal. He's fun.

At least Speedball has powers. Jubilee has to be one of the most useless, if not the most useless, characters in the entire Marvel Universe.

The arguement is leveled against Dazzler. Light is a powerful weapon if used right. And I DID read New Warriors and it was symptomatic of everything wrong with 90's comics that didnt involve Rob Liefeld or chromium covers. And most guys who are considered the "heart" of a team means that they are otherwise useless. Ok, well, this went over like a lead balloon. Good thing I didnt start with my first choice of Stryfe. It wasnt my intent to piss off everyone with my pick. Mehaps this topic is too touchy.

Never read any of the comics, but I know who this guy is, and I'm not too interested in him. Maybe if I saw one of the comics, I'd read it just to see what it's like...

Ok, I'll attempt yet another at a later date and see if that fairs better...
Until then, I have an idea to crown (much like the battle royale) WF's lamest character. But I'll get to that later.

If you liked the first run of New Warriors you should go pick up the current mini-series. They're on issue 4 or something of that nature. It's friggen rad. The New Warriors are a part of a reality show going around to small towns saving them from villainy. Hilarity ensues. They fight Red Ghosts apes at a zoo they've taken over. That one, issue #2, is my vote for best comic of the year. So no more hatin' on Speedball. He's alright. Now Rusty and Skids from the original X-Factor. They're lame.

But that art is so terrible. I might go get some of them though because I love the characters. Well, that's where you and I differ. I quite like the art and I think it suits the story perfectly. It wouldn't work with like a Jim Lee doing the art for it. But then again, I personally, don't think Jim Lee is suited for anything. But that's just me. If you pick up the issues you might see where I'm coning from. And if you only get one, get #2. Tres Fantastique!

'Nuff said. Now that's what this thread should be about. No one likes Superpro. No one. And if someone says they do, they're lying.

My dad bought like, two of those because he thought SuperPro would be "The next big hero".
Oh God how wrong he was.

Real Name: Phil Grayfield Superpowers: More like, what superpowers DOESN'T he have... NFL Superpro was a short-lived comic by Marvel Comics, produced in collaboration with the NFL, written by Fabian Nicieza. It started 1991 and ended after 12 issues The hero of this comic is Phil Grayfield, an ex-NFL-football player who survived a freak accident and wears a near-indestructible football uniform. NFL Superpro has been widely panned as one of the worst comics in recent Marvel Comics history, and has become somewhat of a Ed Wood-like cult object. Phil Grayfield was once an aspiring footballer. His career ended when he saved a child from falling and suffered a horrific knee injury. He became a reporter and interviewed an eccentric football superfan, who happened also to be a scientist. This scientist designed a new, almost indestructible football uniform, which has to be molded on an individual basis and costs 5 mio. $, so it is worth "a fortune". But unfortunately, thieves raid the eccentric's house, overwhelm the two of them, steal the uniform and torch the building. Grayfield, who is tied up, knocks over experimental chemicals, who - in combination with the fire and diverse ultra-rare football souvernirs going up in flames - do not incinerate him, but turn him into a near-invincible superhero. Grayfield puts on the eccentric's football uniform, brings the villains to justice and dedicates his life to fight crime. Random Factoids: * NFL Superpro #6 had to be pulled from the shelves because it contained racist content. It pictured Native American Hopis as backwards and hateful [1]. * Fabian Nicieza, who as 2005 is one of the top writers at Marvel Comics, states that even after 15 years, he still receives flak for his comic [2]. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just to give it the official feel. ;D

At the time, it was just about as good as anything else being cranked out. I think I had a few issues, crammed in with my run of Wonder Man from the 90s. Good thing I liked X-Men because everything else I was a fan of then really sucks in hindsight.
But yet no one has yet learned why to NOT mix superheroes and other licenses and/or corporations?
