Since the non-Marvel, non-villain poll is up, I figured I'd let everyone know a bit about my favorite, Invincible, who stars in Probably the Best Superhero Comic in the Universe.
Real Name: Mark Grayson
Affiliations: The Pact
Previous affiliations: The Teen Team, Guardians of the Globe
Notable Relatives: Omni-Man (father), Debbie Grayson (mother)
Notable Powers: Super strength, flight, super speed
Biography: Mark Grayson is a teenage superhero who calls himself Invincible. He is a normal high school senior with a normal part time job and otherwise normal life, except his father is the superhero Omni-Man, the most powerful superhero on the planet. At the age of 18, Mark began to inherit superpowers, which came from his father being a member of the Viltrumite race, who, according to Mark's father, pioneer the galaxy on a mission of benevolence and enlightenment. As Invincible, Mark begins working as a superhero, with his father acting as his mentor, and meeting other heroes. Mark worked occasionally with a superhero team called the Teen Team, where he met and flirted with heroine Atom Eve, who has now quit superhero work.
Everything changed when the Guardians of the Globe, the Earth's premier superhero team, were all killed by Omni-Man. After one of the murdered Guardians comes back to life and Mark witnesses his father kill him again, Omni-Man tells Mark a different story about his extraterrestrial origins. Instead of bringing peace, Omni-Man is supposed to prepare the earth for the coming invasion by the ever-growing Viltrumite empire. After Mark refuses to go along with his father's plans, his father nearly beats him to death, but then suddenly abandons the fight and flies into space. Due to a government cover-up, the people in Mark's life believe his has died in a car crash. After his father's betrayal, Debbie Grayson, Mark's mom, began drinking and now barely ever leaves the house. Invincible continues his superhero work all the while listening for signs from his missing father.
A new team of Guardians of the Globe has arisen, and Mark occasionally works with them. They are preparing for the upcoming invasion of Earth.
Mark Grayson is now in college, while also working for a clandestine government agency under a man named Cecil, who was formerly his father's liason with the government. He is currently dating his high school girlfriend named Amber who knows he is Invincible. His roommate/best friend named William is also aware of his superpowers. His mother is working towards a Real Estate license.
About the comic: Invincible is a comic book created by writer Robert Kirkman and artist Cory Walker, published monthly by Image Comics. It features the adventures of a young teenage superhero adjusting to his newfound powers, and having to cope with the reality of his origins. Invincible has Superman's powers, but his alter ego is more similar to Peter Parker in terms of relationships and career. Invincible began as one of the debut titles in Image Comics' new superhero line that brought back traditional superheroics reminiscent of the Golden and Silver-age of comics. After several months of attention from the comics media, Invincible became the most popular and best-selling title in the Image Comics line since Spawn. Wizard: The Comics Magazine has given it their coveted Book of the Month award for best monthly comic. Invincible has recently been picked-up by Paramount for a possible full length motion picture[1]. Invincible will team up with Spider-Man in Marvel Team-Up #14 in November, 2005.
