Thank you for all the kind helpful words. It is a pretty difficult thing, they certainly become a part of the family more than you could imagine. He was such a loyal and sophisticated dog, an important member of the family for just under 10 years. We found out that the conditions he died from cannot be detected and werent treatable and that we by putting him down, removed him from the pain. He wouldnt have had long left anyway and the quality of life would be minimal. He had a great life.

I know the feeling man. I never really realised how tough it can be to lose a dog until it happened to me. You just get used to them being there. Its sad when they go. I still miss my dog. I had him for 13 years, and one morning went out to his kennel and he just wasnt moving. Its a horrible feeling, but like anything else, you'll get over it. It sucks ass for a day or two. then you just kinda accept it. I dont think theres a point in the upcoming years when you'll not miss him. Strange things trigger your memory of a dog. I dunno. Just random stuff, or you'd be in the middle of doing something that is in no way dog or animal related, and he'll just pop into your head. My dogs dead a few weeks now, and yet, Every time i hear a dog barking, i assume its him. It sucks. But like i say, it doesn't suck too much after a little while. It gets easier on you with every passing day. Some of the silly things my dog used to do still make me laugh. Wow... im babbling on way too much. R.I.P Dogisdaman. I'm sure you'll be missed

I really can't comprehend what it must feel like, but by just reading that, it makes me upset and want to drive 10 hours to Canada to see my dog (he's with my mom's fiance, waiting for citizenship to get into the States where they will live with us). He's 8 years old, and was hit by a truck the summer before I met and fell in love (yes.. fell in love) with him. I love him to death. I put a few ice cubes in his water bowl to make sure it stays cold longer, and I sprinkle grated cheese over his food because he loves that. I'm going to start bringing him out for walks more often, but it's diffcult when he constantly runs and "chokes" himself on the leash by running too far ahead of me.
Anyways, just thought I'd share that with ya. Dogs are awesome. They're a boy/man's best friend. I am very sorry for your loss, and like Jay said, he knows that he was loved, and he will be waiting for you someday.

Sorry to hear that man. I've had a similar experience when my hampster died. It died on Halloween in early 2000. The sad thing was that it died in my hands when i saw it acting funny and tried to help.

Very sorry to hear about your loss. I've been where you are and until you have gone through something like this, you can't really understand how it feels.

i feel your pain. its easy to get attached to any pet. i had a budgie for 8 years and cried for 24 hours straight when he passed. same thing for a rabbit i had earlier and the only thing the rabbit ever gave me was two scars.
pets really do become part of the family. some people just dont seem to understand that though.
