Proton Blast!
They'RRR great!... According to Variety through Comic Book Movies it looks like the long anticipated Iron Man is set to get filed...awww...Iron...filed?!
Chances are that the movies gone for this attempt at development. Perhaps someone else will have a go and option it? Isn't this one of the saddest pieces of news in the Comic Adaptations? This had great potential.
Perhaps it's for the better.

This may not be the most popular opinion, but I think Cruise would have been good as Tony Stark. Iron Man himself would probably be CGI, so it would just be his voice.

I think he has the look for Stark... smack the stash on him and there you go! Shame about the movie but I'm sure we'll see one one day.

This is GREAT news!!!! The rights are reverting back to Marvel. And Marvel's developing it's own movie properties now. That means that when Marvele ventually gets around to making an Avengers movie, THEY CAN USE FRIGGIN" IRON MAN!! Cap, Hawkeye, Iron Man, Black Panther, Ant-Man, Wasp...that's an Avengers line-up I can get behind.

Not because I, as a comic fan, will think they are bad... but the general public. I reall hope Marvel don't find themselves in money trouble again.

ahh well, I can go without seeing it. I really hate CGI, too. That was the only thing comendable about Fantastic 4 is that the thing was not done CGI.

Better than DC, who get basically no say in how WB jumbles up the properties into actor vanity projects (Catwoman, Constantine). Marvel might screw them up in translation, but they are more able to put a veto on stupid costume changes or rewrites of entire characters. Doesnt mean they might not get tweaked for "Hollywood", but not nearly as butchered. And I think Marvel makes more money now from its movies than its books, so its a safe bet for them. At least for now. Too bad about Iron Man. Cruise would have been good, but not as he is now. It'd have some silly built-in Scientology crap. Because it doesnt matter how much clout they have over their properties as films, Cruise has more.

I must say, despite his bizarre ways, Tom Cruise would have done a fairly decent job, and leagues better than the shithole that is Fantastic Four (recent version).

I think Nic Cage would have been a decent Tony Stark. I hope they dont make whoever wears the armor that buff. I like the interpretations that Tony is pretty much "man" sized. He is in shape, but the armor makes him feel bigger than he is. I think getting Cruise (as he is now) to wear a mask over his face for at least half the movie would be a challenge.
Also, what kind of story can you tell with Iron Man? I think they'd have to go with the classic version who wore the plate to keep his heart beating and make the storya film about man's dependence on machines, as opposed to making him Batman in a robot suit.

I think Julian McMahon would have been a good Tony Stark if he hadn't have been Doom. They could always cast the 'stache and go with Tom Selleck. Maybe he's got a bum ticker because he's up there in years.
