Sentinel Series Mr. Sinister
This is the 2nd of the "BAF" set, where, each figure in the set comes with a body part of a huge figure, which is to be constructed, after all the parts are obtained. However, the parts aren't random, meaning that each figure comes with a confirmed part. Mr Sinister comes with the huge figure, right leg. And what is this "huge figure"? Well, its none other than the mutant killing machine, the Sentinel. Sentinels were constructed to destroy every Mutant life form on earth. With mixed results. A little background on Mr Sinister, his real name is Nathaniel Essex, he worked together with Apocalypse, the most feared mutant on earth, and allowed him to transform Mr Sinister, into an immortal being, and tasked him to do Geneticist work and appointed him as a Horseman. Some other powers include, healing factor, shape-shifting, superhuman strength.
Mr Sinister Statistic Card details
Real name : Nathaniel Essex
Known Alias : Mr. Sinister
Affliations : 4-Horsemen, Apocalypse, Scott Summers
First appearance : Uncanny X-Men #221
Nationality : English
Flavour Text : A Victorian-era scientist obsessed with evolution in all its forms, Nathaniel Essex allowed the immortal warlord known as Apocalypse to augment his body and strip him of his humanity. Now, he is Mr. Sinister - master manipulator and expert geneticist working to create the most powerful mutant the world has ever seen! A brilliant biologist and geneticist, Mr. Sinister is also immortal - granting him a unique perspective on human evolution. Sinister can manipulate his molecular structure, this altering his appearance and shape. Also, he possesses superhuman strength and an accelerated healing factor.
Head Sculpt
Compared here are Mr. Sinister's comic adaption, the first picture here are the Mr. Sinister we find in comic books and in the recently released, X-Men Legends II game, and the rest are shots I took of the Marvel Legends 10 Mr. Sinister head and face. Although the pictures might not look similiar, Marvel has made minor changes here and there before on the Marvel characters. Although this look is the most common Sinister.
Sinister's appearance is somewhat pale, he's been genetically changed, but, to be honest, I'm not really that sure how Sinister had the "red ruby" on his forehead, and read eyes, although I'm pretty sure it was due to the genetic experiment he went through thanks to Apocalypse. However, you can use the reference pictures supplied, and see how detailed this face scan is. The eye shadows are spot on, as well as the facial "hair" on his chin and jaw-line. Sinister comes with a hood-like gear, which I honestly think is too oversized in terms of scale, but nonetheless, its still alright, and suitable for this figure. The hood is red on the inside, and metallic blue on the outside, which links to his "tendrils" or "cape" which is likewise, red on the inside, and metallic blue on the outisde. This hood+cape is removable. But, one gripe is that the length of the "tendrils" are ridiculously long, and obstructs play and posing. It would have been better if it was arched to around 30 degrees, and less tendrils dangling from his back. Nonetheless, still good, to be honest, it'll be too much to ask for for a 30 degree arc, although it'll be PERFECT if that was added.
Good points :
- Accuracy in headscan, colors, combinations
- Scaled head, eyes, colour
- Added hood, with removable cape and rubber, flexbile tendrils
Bad points :
- Oversized hood
- Tendrils are too long
- Arc of roughly 30 degrees should have been added.
Torso Sculpt
Sinister comes with a generic Marvel Legends torso, with the standard hip movements, and a forward and backward abdominal articulation. Standard arms, with 7-8 points of articulation each. Movements at the ball-jointed shoulder. Elbow-to-bicep, elbow-to-forearm, and finger movements. This time, the figure doesn't have a wrist joint, nor a forearm joint, which I'm prety disappointed with. Sinister comes with a pointed shoulder pad, which I think is accurate, with slight designs on it. As likewise, Sinister has his infamous red ruby stuck onto his chest, right above the abdominal joint. The colour scheme is just oerfect. Shiny metallic blue-like, with different shades of blue on each plate. The pictures might make it seem sea/royal blue, but its not in person. The colour scheme is just perfect.
Mr. Sinister also has a small slot on his lower back for the insertion of the stand.
Good points :
- Accurate colour scheme
- Accuracy in attire
- Alot of articulation in torso
Bad points :
- N/A
Really, I couldn't find any faults in the torso area, other than the lack of wrist articulation, which I think wouldn't pull down the grades of this figure, much, or even, at all.
Lower Body Sculpt
Again, the basic and standard Marvel Legends lower torso(legs). 8-10 Point of Articulation on the leg area, with the standard ball-jointed thigh to pelvis area. Also, Sinister has his THIGH-length boots, which is very accurate, and also sports the creases and folds which are excellentl. The outside of his boots are of the same metallic blue colour, although, visible is the red border-line of his boot cut off, which I'm glad was painted smoothly.
There isn't anything much to comment on the lower torso area, other than its accurate and scaled accordingly. As always, at the sole of the boots, includes a slot for the base nodes.
Good Points :
- Articulated legs
- Accuracy and smooth paintjob
- Scaled accordingly
Bad points :
N/A
Overall ratings for Head/Torso/Lower body sculpt :
Features
As usual, a sticker would be pasted onto the packaging, stating the 1)POA, 2)Comic book/poster book and the pages. A 32-paged comic book is usually taken from one of its recently released comics, whereas a poster book is a custom made book about the character. Usually characters like Nightcrawler, Captain American, Mystique and less "famous" characters get poster books. Mr. Sinister boasts a 40-point articulated figure, and comes with a part of the Sentinel(left leg) which would be needed to complete the entire huge figure.
Overall ratings for Features :
Articulation
This figure boast a 40-point articulation of limbs, body and whatnot. The average of Marvel Legends figures are around 35 POA, although it has reach 50 and beyond as well. Personally, I HONESTLY think the massive amount of articulation spoils the figures, as the looks make it skinny and unsightly. But, something we must consider is that, these are toys which are meant to be played with, and displayed with, and the articulation allows you to vary your poses and make them look flexbile, and create your desired pose.
Overall ratings for Articulation :
Accessories
Mr. Sinister comes with a standard 32-paged comic book, taken from either recently released, or previously released comic books, although these comics have been edited, and are NOT for resale. As like the rest of the Marvel Legends 10 set, this figure comes with a transparent stand, as do the other 6 fiigures in this set. Toybiz has been getting stingy on accessories, as we've seen awesome accessories before, to name a few, countless weapons, sturdy base, re-enactment scenes, and more. But, I won't complain much about this, as that is a little price to pay for a...Sentinel left leg. Yes. A left leg. The idea is to complete the set, set of 6 figures, and each figure comes with a part of the mutant nemesis, the Sentinel machines, created to kill any mutant lifeform, although the X-Men has stopped them before, the mass productions are insane.
As you can see, the Sentinel leg is about one head(figure head) taller than Mr. Sinister. You can view the height of the Sentinel(16") as compared to the normal figures(6-7") below after the review on Mr. Sinister. In Series 9, we saw the Huge figure being Galactus, which is another legendary figure in the Marvel Universe. But, do you know which LEGENDARY Mutant would be featured in Series 12? Well, do your research, and you wouldn't be disappointed, one bit.
Overall ratings for Accessories :
Thoughts/Feelings/Ratings
Personally, this figure was the one I was looking forward to in this set. I absolutely love the Mr. Sinister character, and the outfit he puts on. Although he's no Wolverine, neither does he have the popularity level of Wolveirne, any die-hard X-Men or Marvel fan would have at least once, come across Mr. Sinister, or the 4-Horsemen in which he belongs to.
Although the accessories might seem disappointing(stand), I'm glad that at least, Toybiz added a side accessory rather than just the Sentinel part, and we saw this happen with Marvel Legends Series 9. This fgiure has a very smooth paintjob, although a minor smudge is present on my hood, I'm deeply grateful for Toybiz for providing such a long awaited Mutant in the form of a Marvel Legend, Articulated, and becoming truly a Legend. Mr. Sinister is short-packed in Marvel Legends 10, alongside Mystique, which means that Sinister is produced in lesser amounts than the rest of the figures in this set. I think Sinister deserves that title, as this figure is very thorough, and appealing to all fans.
OVERALL RATINGS :
To be honest, I'm not all that detailed with Mr. Sinister as with the rest of villians(yes I know). So yeah, might have had some wrong terms and ****, but, bear with me.
