So, I had an uncharacteristic streak of good fortune this week when it came to Marvel figures.
Here's what I found:
Fantastic Four Classics Human Torch w/Impossible Man. I'm going to admit it, this one was more or less an impulse buy. I have plenty of Torches, but I think the IM pack in sold me on it. This figure bothers me for one simple reason. I see it as what might have been. Torch here has a greyt sculpt, and could've easily been the best version of the character to date. But Toybiz decided to include an action feature which meant sacrificing articulation at the elbows. Now, I understand this is geared toward kids, but I really see this figure as a missed opportunity, for something greater.
Overall, I'm not sorry I purchased him, as he's still one of the better versions of the character. just sorry that Toybiz settled for a triple, when they had a sure inside the park homer. Impossible Man is such an obscure character, that I don't know if anyone will buy it soley for him.
The Fantastic Four Classics Thing is the polar opposite of Torch. The figure I expected the least from, surprised me the most. Thing also has an action feature, but the only sacrifice in articulation was an ab cut I didn't like anyway. This is my new personal favorite version of Grimm. He's bigger than the ML and movie versions. The button on his back may bother some people, but I'd personally rather have the button, than the buttonless piece of **** we got in ML 11. But if you're someone that's easily bothered by that, I suggest the ML 2 version.
Overall, I really glad I bought this figure. Where Torch was lacking, Thing excelled. Awesome figure.
I saved the best for last, in Spiderman Classics Venom. Let's get the negatives out of the way. Venom has an action feature which takes away articulation in the neck, and he has a button on his back. If this sounds like something that would bother you, I suggest going with the Sinister Six, or earlier SMC versions of the character. All of which are good in their own right. If you can over look the limits on head movement, and the button, go out and buy this puppy. Venom here has an absolutely badass sculpt, and he's a ing beast scale wise. Aside from the head, Venom has the standard articulation you'd expect from ML related figures. In the comics, Venom is portrayed as a monster, and this figure nails that.
Overall, Venom rocked my ass. Enough said.
