So, we're currently 4 years, and 12 sets into Marvel Legends, not including Spiderman Classics, and various other lines. I decided to take a look at my collection, and pick the ten best made to this point.
10. Howard the Duck
Debuting in Marvel Legends 5, Howard was the first of many pack in characters to make an appearance. Although not well known by casual fans, Howard helped sell the Silver Surfer figure he was packed with. There were many that bought Surfer just to get Howard.
Why he's number 10: Although a nifty bonus, Howard's relative obscurity, and small size put him at the bottom of the list.
9. Venom Spiderman Classics
The third Venom released in the Marvel Legends era, this version captured a more muscular and menacing look, which towered over the previous versions. He became a favorite with collectors that wanted a more monstrous look to the character.
Why he's number 9: Because of his sculpt and size, he beats out Howard, but the action feature which doesn't really work, and limits head movement, keeps him from being ranked higher.
8. Sentinel Marvel Legends 10
The second BAF to debut, Sentinel was made up of six different pieces, two of which were shared by Mystique, and Omega Red. 16 inches tall, Sentinel was massive, and contained a ton of POA.
Why he's 8: Being more desirable than Venom, and because he lacked an action feature, Sentinel is a solid 8. However, many people had problems with low QC on the pieces, and several figure you needed to buy to complete him had inferior plastic.
7.Iron Man Marvel Legends 1
As part of the initial assortment of Marvel Legends, we got shell head in his most recognizable look. Maybe the one figure you could look at, and know the line was going to take off. Many Iron Man figure have come since, but this one still holds up.
Why he's 7: Just for the iconic look, he outclasses Sentinel, however the figure is beginning to look a little dated, and prevents him from being ranked higher.
6. Black Panther Marvel Legends 10
One of the most requested ML figures to date, Panther finally made his way on to shelves in ML 10. Standing out as one of the best figures in series 10, Panther had a sturdier plastic, than most of the other figures in the set.
Why he's 6: Because ML had vastly improved since series 1 had been released, Panther narrowly beats out Iron Man. However, the purple paint wash, and less requested modern look cost him some spots on the list.
5. Marvel Legends 12 Wolverine
Coming from the most recent series of ML, Wolvie is captured in his Astonishing X-Men costume. Beating out the ML 6 Wolverine, this version stands as the best version of the character currently available.
Why he's 5: More recognizable than Panther, and less prone to QC problems, Wolvie beats out Black Panther. However, the likelihood of this figure being replaced by a better version, and some minor paint problems cost him a higher position.
4. Galactus Marvel Legends 9
The first, and in my opinion the best BAF to date, Galactus ushered in a new era for Marvel Legends. For a figure we were sure we'd never get, Galactus delivers. Great posability, awesome sculpt, and a sturdy plastic make him a must have.
Why he's 4: Because he was the first of his kind, he beats out Wolvie, and earns a high spot. However, the fact that he probably should've been bigger, docks him enough points to stay out of the top 3.
3. Rhino Marvel Legends Fearsome Foes of Spiderman
The third Rhino released, this version captures the massive size of the character, and shows him in his early look. With everyone anticipating Vulture from this set, Rhino took a lot of people by surprise, and became a bigger favorite than Vulture to some.
Why he's 3: The overall look and perfect size help him beat out Galactus, but you still have to shell out 50 bucks to acquire him. Plus, the plastic feels brittle.
2. Juggernaut Marvel Legends 6
One of the hard to find figures from ML 6, the unstoppable Juggernaut was at one time, one of the biggest ML's released. A sculpt that included popping veins, and a **** eating grin, Juggy is damn near perfect.
Why he's 2: Juggernaut's near perfection beats out almost everyone else on this list. However, there's that annoying sliding ab joint.
1. Deadpool Marvel Legends 6
Unfortunately for Juggernaut, this figure came in the exact series as he did, and stole the thunder. Deadpool is without hesitation, the best Marvel Legends figure ever made, and possibly including the 90's era Marvel figures. He comes with tons of accessories, has an interchangeable head, and is super posable for just about anything you want to have him do. It'll be interesting to see if Toybiz or Hasbro can ever top this one.
