I'm a man of science, so I prefer not to assume he does or doesn't exist, I'm just waiting for some scientific evidence, which we're never going to get.

I'm a man of science, so I prefer not to assume he does or doesn't exist, I'm just waiting for some scientific evidence, which we're never going to get. By it's nature science is incapable of proving or disproving God. God is, by definition, a supernatural being and/or force. Science doesn't deal in the supernatural, only in what can be concretely measured. Slappy - what studies are you looking at? Every one I've seen has belief in God in the US upward of 90% and higher depending on the survey. I've seen 80% numbers in other countries, but not here in the States.

religions.pewforum.org/affiliationsI find that to be a bit off, but I'm still looking. 16% are no religions, so that's close. A 2004 BBC poll showed the number of people in the US who don't believe in a god to be about 10%.[5] A 2005 Gallup poll showed that a smaller 5% of the US population believed that a god didn't exist.[18] The 2001 ARIS report found that while 29.5 million U.S. Americans (14.1%) describe themselves as "without religion."

There is A god, but not the god that everyone personfiies. Same here. I believe there is a higher power, and that we will all go to a better place when we die, not a heaven or a hell, but just an alternatve version of the world with no violence, death, diseases or war.

Lack of religion doesn't mean lack of belief in God though. I think a 30% number is high for lack of religion, but not out of the realm of believability. I know some people who would never darken the door of any church for any reason, but will tell you they believe in God.

No, "God" is the most ridiculous myth ever created and we all rot in a hole in the ground.

I still can't find the study, but it was quoted on Bill Maher and I've seen it as well that shows Atheists, agnostics and non-believers made up 20% of the US.

I believe there is some kind of life after death, but no... I don't believe in a God just because of a bunch of compiled fables try and convince me to.

I believe there is a greater power that created the earth, but I don't really believe in most religious stories I guess.

Damn, this is posted weekly. No, "God" is the most ridiculous myth ever created and we all rot in a hole in the ground. Yes! This is my basic thoughts on this whole thing. Yay Mal. I try my best not to push my beliefs (or lack therof) onto others, but I always find myself laughing at the idea of a god, and the idea that people believe in this "invisible man in the clouds" as George Carlin has referred to "him" as. As well, unless it's in a book or song title or somewhere else that it's necessary to be capitalized, I never capitalize "god". A noun is a person, place, or thing/object. You don't capitalize an idea. -CMD

Shermer's an agnostic and I believe in God 100%, but I still highly recommend the book. Everyone should read it. I believe in God because belief in God comforts me. I can't go through life believing that this is all there is and that there is no purpose to life beyond every day existence. I just can't do it.
