First off, this is my first post here in almost eight months. Hope everyone is well. Most of you probably don't know who I am, but there are a few (fattic, sean, kliquid, wojc, moogie, and others) who know me from the sports hub and back in the day.
I was involved in a hit and run motorcycle accident last October. My fiance and I were out for a nighttime ride on my Suzuki GSXR-1000 when I stopped at a red light. About 6 seconds after I had stopped, a drunk driver hit us from behind. The impact threw me to the left, and the bike and my fiance straight into the intersection where she was killed instantly. The bike was completely totaled. I fractured three vertebrae in my back, broke both legs, shattered my left wrist, and separated my left shoulder - all with protective gear on.
The driver that hit us sped off, but a witness got his plate number and he was caught shortly after. His BAC was 0.24%. I was hospitalized for 5 months and have had 4 surgeries: one for the wrist, two for my back, one for my left leg. I've been doing therapy 3 days a week to help with my balance and walking, I've made a lot of improvement since when I first started, but I still can't walk without a walker, and the doctors and physical therapists have assured me that I may never be able to use my legs more than 70%.
It's hard to wake up every morning and face this reality. Knowing that my fiance and soulmate has passed away, and that my life will never be the same, I still to this day feel that any moment I'll wake up from this terrible dream and be happy again. Knowing that it’s real and that there's nothing I can do to change it, I'm reminded of my mistakes every minute of every day.
If there are any riders here, or anyone considering to ride: please be safe, and know that no matter how safe you are, you can never trust anyone on the road. And for your own good, take a motorcycle safety course - it could save your life.
It's good to see the forums still running strong, and I see not much has changed in the Lounge (ha). Jay, Nick, Brian - hope all is well you guys. Take care.
