I was thinking about the differences between classic wrestling (for me that is the 80's and early 90's) and todays wrestling. I wondered what about Classic wrestling could be brought back or utilized more to make current wrestling better.
These were the things I thought of, what would have the best impact?
You can choose up to 3 things.

I picked less PPV's, more emphasis on titles, and stronger tag teams.

Less crapty entertainment-based storylines (like bastard midget offspring), more emphasis on the non-Heavyweight titles, more sensible tag teams, more emphasis on the Cruiserweight division, 12 PPVs a year, less Triple H, less Batista.

First and most importantly, they need a focus on WRESTLING and giving everyone a chance to explore what feels right for them in the ring.
But emphasizing the importance of titles, addign managers, sound gimmicks and cuttign back PPVs would be a step in the ring direction also.

Just things off the top of my head
-Matching Tag Teams ~ Guys seemed more like a unit when they dressed and looked alike. All great tag teams had this about them. LOD, Demolition, Harlem Heat, Steiner Bros, Hardys, E & C etc
-Good guys/Bad guys ~ Of course some people will root for the bad guys but thats ok. Wrestlers need to learn to work a crowd better. Flair could have a crowd standing a cheering and with a few words and a look have them turned and booing him.
-More Prestige on titles ~ IMO opinion the WWE World, WHC, US and IC titles have the greatest linage of any titles in wrestling history. They need to make these titles more important. You need to make these titles seem like the WORLD title, not just the WWE title
- Match Quality ~ Heres something that i think has been killing wrestling for a LONG time. With guys like Cena, Orton, HHH, Batista, Taker etc when can you look back and say you've seen a TRUE CLASSIC (30-60 mins) that had you on the edge of your seat the entire time that DIDNT include a table, ladder, chair or thumbtacks. They need to get back to the athletic part of wrestling not the stuntman stuff they pull off now

I think the matches need to be paced better it seems to me that they go out and show all they can do high spots included in 3 mins and then the match is done. Very little story telling going on plus you couple it with beyond bad storylines.

For the record, wrestling has barely ever focused on the "wrestling" aspect in the modern era.
There's much more reason to watch a match if it has a silly story behind it.
What wrestling today needs to take from classic wrestling is time. Everything today is so rushed it means nothing. They're forced to get everything in before the PPV so they smoosh it all into one short jumble of meaningless arguements and plot holes.
...Supposed that could also mean there's too many PPVs. Whatever. Everything needs more time. Promos, matches.... everything.

They need to get back to the athletic part of wrestling not the stuntman stuff they pull off now Matches don't need to be 30-60 minutes to be a classic match. The British Bulldog (w/Lennox Lewis) defeated Bret Hart to win the WWF Intercontinental Championship (25:40) A classic match, and it was WELL under the 30 minute mark. Want another, more recent example? Kurt Angle defeated The Undertaker to retain the World Heavyweight Championship (29:37) Another classic match, and hey look...not 30 minutes. Sure, it's close enough, but still. Shawn Michaels defeated Ric Flair (20:23) Another REALLY recent example of a classic match, and it's not even close to 20 minutes. None of those matches involved weapons, they were straight-up, classic matches.

wow, only 3.....that was tough.
Really the majority of that i'd agree with.
Some good Stables would be fantastic. Now Flair's retired from active competition, he should totally be the manager of a new 4 horseman breed.
Less PPVs would only be a benefit. More time to make an audience CARE about the product and the matches. More chance of wrestling fans not giving up, cos it's just far too expensive to bother with etc.
Proper Tag Teams- We've got a few in the likes of Cryme Time, Hooliganz, Cade and Murdoch (were), but some like the good old days would be great. The kind of LOD, Bushwhackers, Strike Force, Body Donnas, teams that are together and around together for a long while, or in the case of LOD and bushwhackers, forever.

Managers all the way...guys like Khali, Umaga, Henry, and Lashley (when he was around) all need them! I cant see a Heenan style manager being useful, as they shud probably stick with one guy.
Also Factions...love them. there are guys on the wwe roster that arent good on their own but with a couple other guys wud work well. Evolution was incredible so was DX in the late 90's... 4 horseman etc the wwe get too caught up on not wanting to move away from the past sometimes...bringing guys bak that dont need to be like Foley, SCSA. Instead they shud look at the positive elements from the past that can be re-spun into a modern WWE

Managers and a proper Tag Team Division would go pretty far. Also a Title should be really important in my opinion i think on a television ad you should be able to say "And the World Heavyweight Championship will be defended" and people get excited and immediatelly buy tickets.
Now you've gotta say "World Heavyweight Champion Undertaker will take on MVP in a Hardcore Match" and even then you'll get a "Meh i might go"
So yeah...More Tag Teams, More Managers and More importance on Title Belts.
