...but a miserable git in his own comic?
Not sure what this was in, it was one of the stories in the last issue of Mighty World of Marvel
X-23(I think): "He still hates you. EVERYONE hates you." Spidey: "No, that's not...really? ...not everyone..."
and in another issue, when he was with Moon Knight in the Mooncopter
Spidey: "Wow, this is so awesome! It's like a spaceship! I had a car once, but it was LAME. Did you ever see that thing? So lame."
All he does in his own comic is have problems and be sad.

I think alot of it has to do with he's lost alot of his supporting cast, who he used to bounce off of as Spider-Man and make jokes. Also, it seems today comics have to be grim and gritty to keep on selling so for the most part he has too be screwed every issue.
That said, I still think he is funny. Now they've got him on Avengers his main titles have picked up a bit in terms of humour as he has all these different people to interact with.

Everything always has to be about Spider-Man. In his own books, he already is. In crossovers, he has to be funny to steal the spotlight. He's a glory hog, pure and simple.
Not really. He probably has the chance to joke around in crossovers because the stuff that's going on isn't so personal so he can joke about it. It's a lot easier to joke when your loved ones aren't being put in direct danger by your superheroing.
