I was thinking about getting to learn how to play the guitar. My friend who plays in a band is willing to show me. I was just curious since im not that knowledgeable about guitars what a good one to have would be. Something acoustic. Thanks in advance for any help.

Well, I recommend not getting a good one. Just get a cheap one that does the job in case you lose interest.

If you can go up that high in price Martin or Taylor guitars are really good. I've also read good things about washburn.

Washburns make for good starter guitars. Don't go for anything high-end just yet. If you have a chance, check around a local pawn shop. They usually have plenty of guitars.

YAMAHA PACIFICA IS PRETTY GOOD FOR A STARTER. ALSO GET A GOOD AMP AS MOST OF YOUR TONE WILL COME OUT OF THAT
