Hey, i'm a first year film student. Thought i'd show some of my work, hopefully get some feedback and stuff. Basically we had to make a documentary, only three minutes long in groups of three. Since one of the guys had links to farming then we thought it would be cool, and different, to do a documentary on that. What happened was that we all pitched an idea to the class and they picked one to be made, along with the lecturers who also voted. So we pitched our three ideas and all of the pitchs were so well liked that they asked us to make all three! So we had three times the amount of work to do. It was a challenge, but also a chance to make a name for ourselves and show off our skills. So here are the three documentaries. I know they're about farming, not a topic everyone is intrested in but they're only three minutes long each. Would mean alot to me if you saw them and let me know what you thought, y'know from a audience that doesn't really know much about farming. You never know, you may learn something. I thought it looked very impressive for a first year film student
I like how you got some cutaways and I liked the interview style
quite frankly, though, I thought you could have used more cutaways during the interviews just to liven up what they were saying
maybe some music or nat sound in some areas
but overall I enjoyed it
good work!

Thanks for the feedback. I wasn't really sure if i'd get any feedback really, seeing as it's about farming and stuff, not a topic everyone is intrested in.
We were told by the lecturers not to use any soundtracks and keep to just using noises of birds and cattle really. I think sometimes music may of worked, but i like the depressive sort of atmosphere, which seeing as all the topics are showing a bad situation work ok.
We had to make a follow-up drama on one of the topics. We chose to it on TB, which i'm getting uploaded onto YouTube as i type this. Once that's up i'll post a link to it. Again it's only three minutes, but we got a 1st for it aswell so that's good.

ahh, I noticed you were going for the depressive nature, but I think some sort of nat noise over your VO would have helped some
try it out and tell me if it's no good
keep up the good work dude!

This doesn't look like something from a first year film student, it looks quite a bit better than that. Keep with this, you obviously have some skill, good luck.

I've uploaded the three minute drama aswell. I think it's alot better than the documentaries. www.youtube.com/user/jbarrett777That'll take you to my profile. The main video is the drama 'TB: A Family Struggle' Also, check out my trailer, that was a little assignment.

We all liked the composition, we all thought it was our best asset. The main problem is the structure. Most of the student films just have a scene from a film, we had basically a full film, with beginning, middle and an end. It was really a hour long, or feature film condensed to three minutes.
Still though, i've very proud of the film and how it turned out.
