gee where to start.....
1) a 5 star classic match that doesnt involve a ladder, oversized cage, flaming tables or any other "props" where your more a stuntman then a wrestler
2) Non pre-written interviews.
3) A surprise factor, where you never knew who was gonna win
There are a TON of things that make old school better then this crap we've had for the past 10 years

I definitely agree with G-Money's thoughts.
I also do miss the actual wrestling A LOT! Today's wrestling seems too generic and blah to me. I miss when a show's success depended upon guys WRESTLING and not acting and spotfests. I think that is why I just tend to read RAW, SD!, ECW, & TNA's result rather than watch them. I mean I don't feel like I missing something if I miss a show.

I miss when a certain wrestler would do a pre-recorded promo and they would have their own custom background. Like for "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan he would have a 2x4 with his name on it in the background on the screen.
Tito Santana also had one, as did Warrior, Mr. Perfect, Hogan, Macho King, Bret Hart, Blue Blazer, Natural Disasters and many, many more. I miss those. They were awesome. You NEVER see that now, which is a shame.

That they bitch and complain about new wrestling fans. They blame fans for not watching wrestling until the 2000s, saying that they aren't real fans. Just shut the hell up, everyone has to start watching at some point. When I see a reply to a thread saying "lol, when did you start watching wrestling? lol", it just pisses me off.

While I'm definitely an old-school fan, I in no way shape or form hate new wrestling fans. Everyone starts watching at some point. I do have a problem with fans that want a spotfest and believe that is the only good form of wrestling. These tend to be mostly newer fans that are closeminded about true form of pro-wrestling. But I won't really call them 5-star, well maybe the HBK vs. Flair match. 2) I've never been a person of promos. I hate people reading from scripts and feel wrestlers need to do their own stuff. 3)Your statement for part 3 is simply not even worth my time and energy. I miss when wrestling focused on wrestling and the not all the aspects of hollywood. |

Back in the day, people used to complain about jobber squash matches. But I actually miss those and think they were valuable to building heat for feuds.
In 1987 (or really, any year in the mid-late 80s), the main weekly shows like WWF Superstars of Wrestling or World Championship Wrestling on the SuperStation normally had a series of quick jobber matches, each paired with a promo from the wrestler talking about the big-name guy he'd be feuding with on house shows, or at the next major event (Mania, SummerSlam, Great American Bash etc.).
I liked it because it helped each "name" wrestler, from the biggest main eventer down to the "jobber to the stars," get over their moves and get heat on their own without competing with another star for cheers/boos every week. When a new feud started, it had greater impact because confrontations between two "name" stars were made to feel special.
Today, if you go to a house show and see a match like Crime Time vs. Cade & Murdoch on the undercard, chances are you've seen those teams wrestle at least a dozen times on Raw or PPV already. Back in the day, it was more special, since we'd have seen each team demolish jobbers every week, but seeing them against each other would have been somewhat unique.

1/23/84 - 4/1/90 was the greatest era of wrestling for me. Hogan beats sheik until hogan loses to warrior. Those years were magic for me. Plus the LJN figs are still my favorite which were out during those years.

edge and taker did have a good match at mania this year. but it is not like steamboat v flair
steamboat v savage, flair v von erich. i know that but i was impressed by egde a bit.
i watch way more wwe 24/7 than current wrestling.

He was funny as hell no doubt but everything was written for him. Thats whats hurting wrestlers today is that they have their charisma written for them they cant just go out and do it naturally. There were some very predictable matches in the 80s no doubt. I mean Starrcade 83 Flair for the Gold...If you didnt think Flair was walking out champion then you're an idiot. They didnt always build up heel turns though in the 80s. They would just randomly do it and there was a shock factor which now days there no longer is. I mean the whole deal with London-Kendrick or Cade-Murdoch, EVERYONE can see this comming but Pez Whatley turning on Jimmy Valient, nobody saw. This new age of wrestling needs a shock factor and originality. Everything they are doing has been done thousands of times before and its just not entertaining anymore |
