I am not a fan of Tito.. but Dana needs to shut his mouth. I cringe whenever he says anything. You know, on TUF, whenever the guys get out of control, he goes off on these manifestos about how far the sport's come, and how they're doing exactly what they shouldn't be doing to get the respect and whatnot. But then he runs his mouth, completely disrespecting his own fighters prior to an upcoming fight, as if that's going to help people take MMA seriously.
And this whole "not a top 10 fighter thing"... so what, Dana wants 10 fighters on his roster? It's ridiculous to say that since Tito isn't top 10 he has no use for him.

It's not ridiculous when Tito isn't a top 10 LHW, and wants to be paid like he's the champion. I'm sick of Tito complaining just as much as I'm sick of Dana White. Both of them just need to shut up.

The fact he brings in better PPV buyrates than most of the UFC champs should means he should get his fair share of the pie.

You don't deserve a bigger payday because you "draw more." The guy that beats you definitely deserves a bigger pay out. If Tito went out, finished fights, actually performed up to par, etc...he should get a bigger paycheck.

If you don't draw in a card, you're not going to get paid well.

If you don't draw in a card, you're not going to get paid well. And if you don't win/finish/fight...you don't get premiere fights in order to draw. Tito's beat Forrest (I guess you call it that), and had a draw vs Evans. Hasn't finished a fight (other than Shamrock) since 2001 (or 02, I forget) and has been doing TV spots. I don't see why ANY promoter would be willing to give him MORE money, since he's not exactly earning it. That's just bad business. IF he came back and beat Machida, and was willing to fight again on a regular schedule (and didn't have such bad blood with Dana), I think he'd be more inclined to pay him a bit more. But that's not going to happen. It'd be a bad business move to give such a raise to such an unreliable fighter. Especially when you can use that money elsewhere (not that he is: see: Fedor). But if you start paying Tito more than you're paying ANY of your champions or top contenders...more of your fighters are going to want a raise, and you're going to see MORE chaos from people that feel they're being cheated. Personally, I'd rather lose Tito Ortiz than some other people that will be upset.

Tyson could fight a hobo from the street and he'd still get a ridiculous amount of money.

Boxers make considerably more money because of both. Look at how much Dela Hoya, Mosley, Mayweather, Jones Jr, etc make compared to the top MMA fighters.

I think you're forgetting that many top-drawing MMA fighters can go a long time without doing much of anything and still end up with big pay days... Cro Cop, Mark Coleman, Frank Shamrock, Royce Gracie, etc. They all still get paid, despite not much of a recent fighting history. If Tito Ortiz beats Machida on Saturday, convincingly or not, he will guarantee himself AT LEAST two more high paying fights.
