i watched a wwwf card from'79 on wwe 24/7 and Ted Debiase was the "north american" champion. i wondered what happened to this title and why it wasn't active in the mid eighties.
i'm sure you know the crockett era nwa had many many belts. so why did the wwf in the same era only have 3?

The North American Title was retired when the IC Title was brought in...and JCP had so many because they had so many territories and such a big roster..where was WWF or WWWF had a big roster..less belts more prestige

Other titles that became retired in the 80's were the Junior-Heavyweight championship and the Women's Tag-Team championship. Geez, with today's women's wrestling, I cannot even fathom having a women's tag-team championship at all.
I did get to see a match between The Cobra and The Black Tiger for the vacant W.W.F. Junior-Heavyweight championship and it was awesome. Such a great match.
