Don't get me wrong, Joe is a great wrestler, him along with Abyss are probably my favourite two in TNA, but does anyone else think that he is terrible on the mic?
I don't know why, mabye its his voice or mabye its what he is saying, but for some reason, when he is on the mic, he sounds really... 'fake'...
Its hard to explain, but does anyone else think that Samoa Joe is really awkward on the stick?

He's good on the mic, just his speaking tone brings his promo skills down.

He's good on the mic, just his speaking tone brings his promo skills down. Yea, i was his actual voice was the reason... when i think of what he is actually saying its good (not excellent imo), but i think its gotta be his own voice that brings it down

I think he is great on the mic, the only thing that kind of brings them down for me is how he tries to raise the tone of his voice in an angry way on certain parts of his promo's by doing that little "shout". He does it WAY to much and it's obvious he just relies on that little method to make it apparent that he is pissed about a certain thing instead of presenting himself as being pissed the entire promo.

I've had issues with Joe's mic work in the past, though I could never put my finger on them. I think he just comes off sounding too intelligent/ charismatic and it contradicts his "bad ass wrestling machine" persona... perhaps that's what you mean when you say 'fake.'

I've never understood why so many love him on the mic. I've watched many of ROH shows and every time he sounds so horrible.

Let's not kid ourselves Samoa Joe's mic skills are awful. Well, that's your opinion.. However, if you truly believe Joe's mic skills are awful, then you're kidding yourself.. He can work the mic as well as anybody..

He can work the mic as well as anybody.. Samoa Joe cut solid promos in ROH but they weren't "great" they were just pretty average. All he does in his TNA promos is yell.

This mainly stemmed from watching his promo in the ring with Nash this week... i know Nash has been doing it forever, but still, he just sounds realistic in what he is saying

Joe is gold on the mic. You must have hearing problems.. Or you're just not smart enough to comprehend what hes saying.

I'm a huge fan of Joe's mic work. Every time he cuts a promo, I've always felt like he really connects with the crowd, as well as the viewers. Maybe that's just me, though.

I agree, he's not that good on the mic. There's something about him when he talks that is just fake. I can't pinpoint exactly what it is, but it's almost like someone coached him on each promo. Like they said, "Say this part like you are being cocky. Wait about 10 seconds after Kurt says this part before you respond. Look at the crowd right after Kurt says this line. Say this part like you are getting angry."
Plus I think Joe should barely be talking in the first place. He should be a powerhouse, not talking every show.

He's waaaaaaaaaay better on the mic than most. I think his promos are best when his voice is calm, he's got that little smirk on his face, and it's kept short. His in ring persona doesn't cry out for long talks and promos. He should be a machine that destroys, says a few words, then leaves.

I think the problem with his mic skills is that it seems rehearsed and straight from memory. Let's face it, not many people get to the point he is at the way he did. Through solid in-ring work. Most guys that get to that level (In the times since Hogan and McMahon brought out the entertainment and less on the actual wrestling) by being good on the mic. There are some exceptions. Benoit reached a hugh level without being good, but was brought back down to mid-card. TNA doesn't want a short-term Joe then back to mid-card. He is too good in the ring. He make the other wrestlers look good too. That's hard to find now days in the high spot happy pro wrestling era. I think his lack of mic skills are average compared to the rest of the roster, that's probably part of the reason why he still is carrying on with Nash. Look at it this way. He could talk likea robot and still be better than Vickie Guerrero, and she was given a prominent spot in the "E"
