This changes things? Behind the scenes really makes a difference to the rest of us? IF they expand, sure...that could be big. But nothing has happened yet.

Well, if this is the "big announcement", it certainly craps all over the hype they've been giving themselves recently.
I'm sure this will lead to plenty of twists and turns in the long run, but I don't see it as a genre-changing move. Lorenzo helping UFC expand is of course a smart business move, but I think this hardly qualifies as a "big announcement" even to the most hardcore MMA fan.

Well this is odd. It would make more sense if they give a few examples of what this guy is going to do to expand the UFC. As it is, all most fans may do is shrug and say "cool...I guess..."
As expected, the big announcement is only "big" in theory, and kind of weak in delivery. Only time will tell if this is going to lead the UFC to great things

If this is truly the phasing out of Dana White..
this is potentialy huge in a sense that, Dana White is one of the main reasons why alot of fighters arent in the UFC right now..
we could see Couture, Sylvia,Barnett, Fedor, Ortiz and so many others back or for the first time venture into the UFC

It is big news, Dana as the main face of the UFC was fun but lets face facts, the constant expletives & the aggressive manner hardly plays well in corporate land. Lorenzo however knows how to play that game, plus he might be better at talking to fighters & agents to negotiate contracts. Look at all the guys recently that Dana has let walk or not be able to sign. Lorenzo will no doubt be learning the job from Dana who will then be little more than a figurehead, the Jack Tunney of the UFC, hahaha

Great news for behind the scenes things, but it doesn't look like it'll have that big an impact on the shows or fighters, at least not for a while. This announcement didn't live up to the hype it got for the past week or so.

Found this, it explains a little more about the announcement. Credit to MMAWEEKLY:
After weeks of speculation, the Ultimate Fighting Championship on Wednesday finally let its employees in on “the big announcement” that everyone has been bantering about. According to Kevin Iole at Yahoo Sports, co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta has resigned his position as president of Station Casinos to take on a more active role in the UFC.
As mentioned by both Fertitta and company president Dana White in Iole’s report, the move is not a condemnation of White’s performance as president of the company, but rather an indication of how much growth the company has undergone and intends to sustain in the future.
Fertitta is expected to focus on developing the international business of the company as the UFC expands into Germany and other European countries, the Philippines and other Asian countries, Australia, and South America.
Speculation about White’s “big announcement” has centered on everything from a network TV deal to a change in ownership to taking the company public and everything in between. So as White said in his comments to Iole, the Internet-based MMA community as a whole probably won’t see this as a significant announcement. That is primarily because most of the fans that follow the sport are concerned with the fighters and the fights, not the behind the scenes business of the company.
It should, however, be noted that despite it’s lack of glitz to either the casual or hardcore fight fan, Fertitta’s resignation from Station Casinos – a billion dollar a year company – to take a more prominent role in the future of the UFC is anything but insignificant.
Fertitta would not leave his position as one of the highest paid casino executives in Las Vegas, especially as the company is aggressively developing new properties, if there wasn’t just cause to believe the UFC was undergoing its own significant growing phase.
There likely won’t be any immediate changes for the casual fan to notice in the short term, but as the company expands its reach across the globe, there will be numerous developments that fans will appreciate, but not likely know to credit to Fertitta’s expanded involvement.

By them saying that it makes me think the opposite. I truely believe that Lorenzo gave up the position he had because he realizes that UFC has competition right now and all Dana is doing is letting talent go that is being used elsewhere. And that is costing them money. I believe also that he will do alot of oversea's work but mostly at home work. Just think about it this way. Obviously UFC see's Affliction as a legit threat that is why they made their own "free tv" event on the same day. But why would they see them as a threat when all the main event guys are guys that Dana White has let slip threw his fingers? I believe this is the Fertitta's reaction to what Dana has been doing lately. The bottom line is Dana White is costing the UFC alot of money.

I was hoping the announcement had to do with merch. being sold in more stores or adding of weight classes or just something that will be easy to see if it were that big or not. This could help them get into other markets around the world so hopefully it will help them grow and keep getting bigger.
