-- As seen last week on Raw, the password for the first Million Dollar giveaway was "WWE Universe," which is a marketing buzz term used by the company similar to the "Raw Fan Nation" idea WWE television producer Kevin Dunn came up with last year due to his love for the NFL's Oakland Raiders. "Raw Fan Nation" has pretty much been phased out by the company with the exception of the occasional airing of the commercial featuring 2005 Diva Search contestant Leyla Milani talking about the WWE Divas being empowering and so forth. Internally, "Raw Fan Nation" is considered to be a failed idea, quite like WWE's dismal attempt at creating buzz on SmackDown with the long forgotten "Smack Your TV" initiative in late 2003/early 2004. Anyway, Vince really hates the term "fan." At one point he actually banned the creative team members from using that particular term during meetings, feeling it's demeaning. As if that isn't enough, McMahon hates the term "mark" even worse. With that being said, don't expect "fan" to be included in any of the future passwords for the contest. sources: Wrestling Observer Newsletter www.lordsofpain.net/news/2008/articles/1213845578.php-- The Million Dollar concept came up a few weeks ago when Vince McMahon was looking to come up with some out of the box ideas for a publicity stunt on Raw to help improve sagging ratings. According to sources, it is believed that WWE's marketing team came up with the idea to do some sort of trivia game on television, apparently as a take-off of Who Wants to be a Millionaire. Vince changed the idea by eliminating the trivia aspect. Vince then took the concept to his legal team, and they were immediately negative on it, saying that it wasn't a good idea because they were under the belief that it would have a major backlash on the WWE stockholders. McMahon got frustrated about having to win the stockholders over on the idea, which would have delayed his plan, and he decided to use his own money for the contest instead. So when he says he's giving away his own money, he really is. source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter www.lordsofpain.net/news/2008/articles/1213842600.phpI give him mad props, it really seems he doesn't just see people as dollar signs.

Respect to Vince for using his own money...but this isn't going to help ratings.

I think it would have been better to waste those 2 millions trying to get Sting to sign with them.

They can't sign Sting. He's got a contract with TNA.. Honestly, if he was all about the viewers why is he not doing what the viewers want?

I actually really liked the whole not referring to people as "fans" or "marks" because it's demeaning. PT Barnum he is not, Vince doesn't seem to think of his viewers and unintelligent (no matter what the writing indicates) saps that he can squeeze money out of, he seems to have a genuine sense of wanting to entertain the people who put him where he is.

They can't sign Sting. He's got a contract with TNA.. Honestly, if he was all about the viewers why is he not doing what the viewers want? Correction why is he not doing what less then 10% of the viewers want. Internet Smarks are such a small population of the fanbase, and their wants are radically different then the rest of the fanbase.

The whole point is to get viewers to watch Wrestling who has never seen it before. And hoping those people would actually enjoy raw and continue to keep watching.
Thats why he called it publicity stunt.

Oh yeah, because what wrestling fan wants... wrestling. It's better then TNA. I don't think their is much difference. Both have overused predictable storylines with some decent wrestlers. Wrestling is meant for kids. It's fresh, new, and interesting to them.

WWE isn't wrestling, it's entertainment, how you got the idea that it was wrestling is beyond me.

Because you're the biggest TNA mark on the board. Yeah really, his TNA bias is incredible. If TNA were doing this contest, he'd be yelling at all the complainers, saying it was a great thing Dixie Carter was giving away her own money to the fans.
